Is it best to buy US Gold coins? Does it really matter? The reason I ask is because around 10 years ago when I was selling some Mexican gold coins at a coin show, nobody wanted it. That same day I sold my US gold coins easily but not my 1981 Mexican 1/4 oz. The pic is just for show, not even my coin but I wish it was as they're selling for good money today! Dealers would buy it but they wanted to pay me less than spot and I said, nel! Mexican gold coins are more in demand today than they were 10 years ago for sure. Just asking?
It depends on where you plan to sell, how quickly you need to sell, and what the spreads are. World bullion from the top mints (Mexico, Perth, Canada, UK, etc) sells well and can often go for the same and even higher prices than US bullion. However, if your venue to sell is a small to medium sizer local show or a local coin store, then US bullion will be much easier to sell. Don't forget about the spreads though. For example, if the Eagle can be bought for $50 over spot while the Mexican Libertad is $10 over spot and the store pays spot for the Eagle vs $20 under spot for the Libertad, then the Libertad would be the better play.
Yeah, I found that to be the case with many collectors in my coin club as well. That said, I have small amounts from different countries, a 1/10th here and a 1/10th there as those coins were bought just for my collection and I didn't want a collection of white bread coins only. As far as turning a profit in a few years, I'm gonna stick mainly to US gold bullion coins for faster liquidity!

They're selling on feebay for big dollars, personally I don't have any as they wouldn't be my first choice on a gold buy. Spot price for a gram today is $57.10. If you could get them all for less than spot I think you'd be doing alright. Below is a lot on ebay of 25 for $1829.45! I would ask why he wants to trade? One main reason foreign gold can sell for less is less people "collect" them by date, and it's harder to authenticate. Dealers are not gods, they only have so much ability/desire to be experts in things. Most US dealers become experts in US gold to protect themselves, they get more nervous around foreign gold, so pay weaker.
Yeah, luckily I don't have much and they're some of my favorite pieces! Right now, gold is in so much demand buyers on ebay don't care where it's from, they're buying it up! Not that I want to sell on ebay tho'!
Yo slack, I just found out the Pamp Suisse gold 2.5 gram bars have been faked! Unfortunately, you can't tell just by looking at them, as I've heard they were done professionally. Again, I haven't found anything on the 1 gram bars but at all, but you never know! good luck!
Yeah he is mad. He is mad that a "coin dealer" did not know this. Well, guess what, they are not coins! One of the reasons I buy coins instead of bars, (except for cool poured Englehard silver, I think they are neat), is because it's harder to authenticate IMHO. Coins will have very strict tolerances for weight, diameter, thickness that be looked up. Then perfectly faking a die without it being a copy is hard, and there are ways to spot a copy. So, to me, I am simply more comfortable with coins, and would be madder at a coin dealer selling a fake coin than a fake bar.
Howdy folks, It's called fungibility. That's your ability to buy or sell it. You have name brand bullion and you have plain vanilla and you have junk. The good stuff like AGEs and ASEs you can sell at your local McDonalds. Your 100 oz bar minted by Billy Bobs Whore House and Mint is going to be a bit more difficult to sell. and so it goes, peace, rono
