I guess you could say I'm as mad as a hatter over this latest purchase. I've always loved the mid-19th century tokens that mimicked the reverses of the $10 gold eagle coins (in brass).

Why this one? The hat... the eagle... the fact that it's Southern and already PCGS certified in Gem grade... all those attributes appeal to me.

This is the only one of its type certified by PCGS and it sold on Heritage for $312 a year ago (12 June 2019). I saw it on eBay with a Best Offer option, and offered rather less than the prior sale, so I was happily surprised when my offer was accepted.

(I was less happily surprised to see nearly $19 worth of tax added to the total, though shipping was free. Oh well, I guess sales tax on eBay was inevitable. I'll still grumble about it.)

I'm pretty pleased with this token. What do you think?

Here- a tip o' my old Holey Coin Hat.

Here is a other one I used to own. It is an A.C. Yates token from Syracuse, NY, from about the same era, and some A.C. Yates advertising cards (from Philadelphia). Note the similar eagle, in imitation of a gold eagle coin. Hey, you've gotta love "The Old Man With Specs", right? I did.

I have a small collection of these but only took images of a few. Nothing of much value but just loved the eagles.

What a fitting token for you, in condition and subject.
That is truly an amazingly well preserved token.

I bought this one because the merchant was located in Vickburg, Mississippi where a famous Civil War siege and batter was fought. I believe that this piece was issued in the 1850s before the war.
