Here is my 1951 Hula Girl Bus Token. They were barely used in circulation as Hawaii was a new state and they were kept as low priced souvenirs. They were removed and replaced by something less lively. Buses were about the only way to get around on the islands at that time.
Great looking Token! Some sellers on feebay are re-striking the heck out of those! I have one somewhere around here!
I've had them for 10 years, if not longer. They're all BU or unc as they weren't really used to much. People visiting Hawaii would buy them to get around but then kept them as cheap souvenirs.
According to the Atwood-Coffee Catalog of U.S. and Canadian Transportation Tokens, the Hula Girl (id HI 240E) tokens were never placed in use.
They were in use for a few months. Most are Uncirculated as they were saved for souvenirs. In the early 1950's you needed to take the bus to get around. The tokens were very popular and kept by tourists. Within months they were replaced by another less attractive token.
Yes, they are. This guy has been selling so many for so long, I was wondering if he was ever going to run out. lol
