Fantastic post/ learned a lot! If I inherited the AV aureus posted formerly in NFA auction, it was perfect MS. I would keep it and never sell it. I would look at it everyday:)

I've really wanted an example of this type for a long time and finally found one I could afford on my budget of $5. I'm a little worried about authenticity. The fabric is very strange and crumbly. Its also sweet and a little buttery and crumbly. And of course, it's uniface. What do you guys think?

I posted this in jest of course, but later in the day I got to get up close and personal with a real example of the type(in a protective plastic capsule, but we must all make concessions sometimes). I've now seen 3 in person but this was by far the finest. This was the example sold in Triton. A real amazing thing to see in-hand

The NFA Aureus sold for $550K, just checked my catalogue and prices realized. Same catalogue had a MS Alexander of Carthage which sold for $220K.

I saw this listed yesterday in Nomos AG's catalog. Upon seeing this thread bumped again, I was going to mention it.

Now I see why this thread was resurrected.

It will be interesting to see what this one hammers at.

The nomos coin is a forgery that I pointed out to them.

You saved somebody from a very expensive mistake! I don't think the current owner is very happy though. What gave this coin away?

Having your seal of approval definitely helps that coin (if it's the same example that's been offered around for the last few years). I couldn't stomach the eye-watering price but it'll be interesting to see how strong the estimate will be.
