My dealer is offering me a friendship deal. He has 3 more NGC 69 1986 ASEs that he is willing to sell at $55 each. Considering the volatility and that it is a higher premium coin, it’s a risky venture but I’m willing to take the chance, I already purchased 1 of them for 50 and my idea here is that it’s a diverse item that can have variance in value based on Numismatic demand and spot price of silver. I consider this a riskier investment but it’s one I’m willing to take on. My car is paid off and I have no bills so I have more cash to put in play. Thoughts?
CB.... I see bullion as bullion. I bought the Apollo series this year. I knew it was bullion and I suspect if I sell the pieces I will have to expect near spot prices for them. That's OK with me. I liked the series..... I think when you pay substantially over spot for a bullion coin, you are crossing the road from a bullion purchase to a collectible purchase. If you like the piece then that is fine. I see bullion as bullion whether it is slabbed or not. But that's just me.
I can buy "BU" raw 86's for $45 on apmex. Seeing as it is a bullion coin, I wouldn't pay more than bullion price. I understand there is a premium for the date but I wouldn't may even more for one encased in plastic. But, it's your money. Spend it how you see fit.
Go back and tell him that you have a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and a PhD that are due next so he should give you a break for them, too. ~ Chris
I have an 1986, as you can see in the pics but I'm really not a collector of these ASE's at all. The problem with paying that much is, when you go to resell you won't get that much for them at all! Do yourself a favor, always try to look at the resale value or you will do yourself wrong, been there and done that! good luck!
I value it at $52 but it is all in the eye of the beholder. Sales and Marketing costs will always eat at least 10% from the value at the date of the sell.
