Just wondering if there is money to be made going through boxes of pennies or other coins? Maybe by looking for those errors or varieties? Or instead of putting key dates under microscopes to just lot them up and sell them as unsearched? I watched a video on YouTube talking about making a six figure income from coin roll hunting so just curious.

YouTube videos are one of the worst places to get accurate info on coins. Most of them are click bait videos where the only one making money is the one who posted it. IMO you will not make any money by putting together lots of Lincoln Memorial or Shield pennies. There are plenty of "unsearched" rolls or bags of wheat cents on eBay. If you decide to sell "unsearched modern Lincoln Cents, I wish you the best of luck.

Sure.. If you had the time and knowledge to do so. And it is important to know what exactly to look for. If you are a beginner then it will not be that easy. There are so many varieties to learn and a lot of mint errors are minor and don't really have a premium.

    IMHO

Is that per year or a lifetime goal?

Yeah, and that includes all of the gosh darn PMD crap that we have to put up with from people who don't know squat but expect everyone else to teach them. ~ Chris

If your goal is earning money.... Buy a lawnmower. You will earn a lot more money cutting grass.

Igor....Don't CRH planning on making a 6 figure income. It isn't going to happen. I do it because it relaxes me and there is a thrill when you DO find something cool or interesting. That said, after a year of CRH, I still have LOTS to learn. My best find is probably worth $60. Most finds are interesting varieties worth MAYBE $2 to the right person. Sometimes you'll find a W quarter worth $10-$15 (on ebay). I have found a dozen or so of those, but I'm hanging onto them.
I don't hunt for Silver half dollars. Have been unable to find a bank to supply them to me by the box, I do however ask my tellers to keep an eye open for them for me, and have found some silver in rolls they supply. Still not 6 figures.
Take a look at the CRH thread here and look to see what people are finding. NOT a 6 figure income.

BTW.....The best thing the people on this site have taught me is to tell PMD from Mint errors, so I'm not constantly posting PMD coins wondering what this error is worth.
Actual mint error coins are few and far between. I still have trouble with Doubled Dies, and the type of doubling a coin exhibits, but I'm trying!

PLEASE do not fall for the "unsearched" bag of wheaties! There isn't any. People collect them then rebag/resell them as unsearched. Common sense tells you that if someone has such a large hoard of coins, do you think there is a possibility that they have searched them and sold the rest via eBay or some other form of selling? I suppose it is possible to find something like a 1982-D Copper small date or a 1958 DDO, but the chances of that are the same as me being Elvis.

If I were to sell what I've found, then absolutely, I will make money coin roll hunting. The problem is once you start hunting coins to make a buck, you soon become interested and turn into this nasty thing called a collector. Then you spend every waking minute looking at freakin pennies under a microscope while trying to convince your wife that these are the same boxes from yesterday...(they're definitely not) Hey, at least your coin collection will cover the divorce expenses, right?

But really, yeah, you can make a buck, but not a living. It's fun and will help you build a good and possibly valuable collection at face value cost. I haven't found any crazy valuable coins, but a hundred finds worth $5 or $10 ain't bad for a hobby. Heck, all my other hobbies cost money!

NO, No,no, and sometimes. But you can have a lot of fun. You might make some money after learning to grade and specializing in a coin series.

Randy is right. You can make money, but there are a million other ventures out there that you'd make more. I think you'd make more collecting cans for recycling than by CRH
