WOW Strange Indeed. Did he ever try to start or carry on a conversation with you? You know, like a normal person perhaps wanting to make friends?

    I wonder why $50's ?

Again, Very Odd. As my Mom used to say " It takes all kinds to make the world.".

    Thanks for the resolution.

    From another forum:

Kolob is a star or planet described in the Book of Abraham, a sacred text of the Latter Day Saint movement. The Book of Abraham is traditionally held by several Latter Day Saint denominations as having been translated from an Egyptian papyrus scroll by Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement.

Keep up the good detective work - track these pranksters down

And the UTAH quarter would represent where the Mormon faith is mostly found.

Just a group of coins stamped with clever slogans, Hookman. Some of them make no sense and nearly all of them are difficult to read. Stamped in the heart of the coins design with punches that are too small. The stamp should be prominent and easily visible...counterstamping 101.

I'm so disappointed in this guy. Couldn't he have made a better effort at being both mysterious and surprising?

He needs to dish out more $50s

Intriguing yet a little freaky to be honest @paddyman98. What's going through your head when you get these letters?

Wow...What an absolute nut job. Sounds like the kind of person who would try and disinfect himself with Clorox or Lysol...

You might find it a little unsettling, but hey, free money!

Kooky? Sure, a little. Fine by me- I'm a bit kooky myself. This is a generous person who obviously enjoys being mysterious.

I know this because I too received cash in the mail (including counterstamped quarters) from the same source.

    Except I didn't get a $50 bill.

    I got Benjamins.

Yes, Benjamins, plural. And they were real.

This mysterious benefactor is known only as "The Quarter Master", and somehow he knew I had been laid off. (Obviously reads these forums.)

So it seems he wanted to help (the letter said as much). And boy, did it! Gonna use those C-notes to fix my old jalopy before I go back to work. Had it towed to the shop today.

No, I don't know his true identity either, though I've gotten some nice letters. If the guy is gonna throw Benjamins at me anonymously, I won't complain about that. I know some of y'all are spooked and suspicious, but I think it's sincere and all in good fun.

Just the other day, I found an unopened Quarter Notes letter in my briefcase, which had arrived before my layoff at work. In the subsequent hoopla, it got shunted aside with some junk mail. Realizing I had better open it, I did, and sure enough, there was another counterstamped quarter and yet another Benjamin! :greedy:

In this note, the Quarter Master wanted to buy five sets of my elongated coins, and to have me give them away on the forums.

He short-changed himself - I sell those sets for $10, so that Benjamin buys ten sets, not five. I'll be doing that giveaway soon.

Dear Quarter Master - if you read this, thank you. Your kindness really has helped. Don't sling any more C-notes in my direction- I'm doing fine and will return to work in early June. I'm sorry I initially overlooked that first cash envelope where you were buying those elongates. I'll give away ten sets of them soon- five here and five on Collectors Universe. Plus the regular giveaway.

(Edit: giveaways are now posted and linked above. Sorry I can't toss around free Grants and Benjies like some people do. ;) )

My advice to y'all? If you get a mysterious piece of mail from Quarter Notes, open it!

BTW, all of the mail I send from here (Brunswick, GA) gets routed through Jacksonville, FL. But I am not the sender of these envelopes and I don't know who is.

Hats off to him, though. I'll post those giveaways soon and pay a little bit forward.

On May 5, my Informed Delivery notice from USPS showed the image of a letter from QuarterNotes delivered to my PO box which I seldom use or check, because it's many miles from my residence and I receive 99% of my first class mail here. Interesting that I should receive the QM letter at the address I no longer use for any meaningful purpose, but as others have mentioned, the sender has skills.
I haven't picked up the mail from my PO box yet, as I only make that trip once every couple of months or so - I'll report back & reveal what I got, whether a quarter or something larger

The Quarter Master does seem to have been very active since the beginning of the quarantine, as referenced in one of the counterstamps. (I got one of those, along with several of the other ones mentioned here.)
