The 1/3 of a $2 is a 1817 issue, non star note, featuring the bracelet back reverse. Just waiting on the "junk" comments that will send me off into an uncontrollable chuckle. As opposed to coins, conditions and otherwise, items like this are favorable for merely existing. Valuable? probably not. Tangible history in hand, indeed!

That is a nice example of a die test token. Excess production from a previous order was struck again with new dies to check the spelling and details before the new order was run. There would be less than ten tests made. Not all would be on the same donor token so mintage would be less than ten. I have occasionally found two identical die tests. Some of these the previous token was flattened first and then they are very difficult to read. I accumulate them but don't know of anyone who buys them. An ebay auction with clear photos might surprise you if you start low and let it run 7 or ten days.

 

Get outta here!!! Really?? I've been going crazy, wrapped around the axle, doing research and trying to figure it out! I knew if it was out here long enough, someone (like yourself) with knowledge would find it and identify it. Man, you're a lifesaver!

Any idea where I can find a picture of what it "should" look like and what it's used for?

A grouping of studio issued personality medals, tokens and others. Of note, is the Adam Pietz (Assistant Chief Engraver at the Philadelphia Mint from 1927 to 1946) silver 1932 medallion of Jean Harlow.

 

I know that at least a few of those are two sided.

 

These are the only ones I have images of; will have to flip a few over to see...
