They don't make them anymore, $500 is the largest.

Yes, and Jefferson has replaced Hamilton on the $10.

Though I like these bills in general, it would be great to move in the direction of including major cultural figures on money rather than just politicians. That would make room for figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King, Jr. Or, in the footsteps of Japan, start including important American scientists and artists, such as the Wright Brothers, Neil Armstrong, Grace Hopper, Rachel Carson, Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan, Toni Morrison, Louisa May Alcott, the list goes on and on.

Including sports figures who also made cultural or public contributions would also bring a lot of attention to circulating money. Some prominent names include Jim Thorpe, Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, Lou Gehrig, and this list could go on and on as well.

A new approach to currency may make it more relevant to today's rather history illiterate public. Though it would be hard to replace Lincoln in particular. Maybe keep him.

my credit union has them too. They told me no one uses them.

The only place I've seen them consistently used was Washington DC in the Subway system. I clearly see the advantage of use $1 coins as refund versus paper $1 bills on automated systems, although not good for the pockets.

If I want any I have to ask at my bank and all they have is a small handful.

Late to this thread... I think the $1 as shown is an outstanding design. The $5 is okay, not sure why Jefferson is kicking Hamilton off the $10 (not a huge problem with it but not sure why we are shuffling) and would not put JFK on a note (do not put modern presidents on). I've mentioned in the past I'd like to see the $2 as the "mess around with it" note with rotational figures from US history (you could rotate through the Presidents not on currency or other historical figures).

    But that $1 is dy-no-mite...

As for the OP and the video, the designs are good. But the timing is bad.
That is Jefferson on the ten and Kennedy on the twenty.

We need the $500 and $1000 back.
In 1969 Nixon made the $100 the largest bill. To stop smugglers in his "war on drugs". A war that we lost. The 500's and 1000's at the time were all dated 1934, and they did circulate then.
They used to be on Let's Make a Deal all the time. Monty Hall would flash these bills and pay people with actual 500 and 1000 dollar bills.
High-denomination bills were last printed on December 27, 1945. The Federal Reserve began taking high-denomination currency out of circulation and destroying large bills received by banks in 1969. As of January 14, 2020, only 336 $10,000 bills were known to exist, along with 342 remaining $5,000 bills and 165,372 remaining $1,000 bills.

I stand corrected, you're right. I forgot about Tricky Dick's move.

I like it too. When my sister returned from Canada, she brought back some currency. I don't feel they are much heavier than paper bills. Also, the bills had lots of security features and a tactile feature for blind and low vision people. I think the reason they've made the dollar too is a matter continuity and keeping the series uniform. Besides, as we've discussed in other threads, Americans just do NOT to get rid of their dollar bill.

    I’m curious why you think we need the $500 & $1,000 notes @Michael K .
