I just switched my avatar to this guy, Amun-Ra. Here is the causeway linking Luxor temple to Karnak temple in what was known as Thebes, typically the foremost nome in Egypt up through Greco-Roman times. There are a few coins depicting miniature Amun-headed sphinxes...from Roman times. My only goat so far is this Valerian II example: Valerian II, AR antoninianus, 23 mm 4.2 grams Struck: 257-258, Cologne. Obverse: VALERIANVS CAES, radiate, draped bust right Reverse: IOVI CRESCENTI, the child Jupiter sitting right on the goat Amalthea, looking left, right hand raised, left hand holding the goat's horn. Reference: RIC 3 (Lyons); Cohen 26 (Saloninus); Elmer 67a; Goebl 0907e; Sear 10731. Feel free to post any goats or rams on your coinage. And if you have an Amun example please show it!

I see what you did there. Aigai in Aeolis minted these minute bronzes in the 3rd century BC, with bust of Apollo and bust of goat.

(incuse), SNG ANS (Macedonia) 66 (Aigai), Sheedy Non-Parian group 3 Size: 9mm, 0.8g Ex: Stack’s, July 16, 1997, Lot #179 Notes: J. Svoronos, in HPM (pp. 34-5), set forth an argument for not assigning certain goat-type coins to Aigai in Macedon, based on the gender of the goat depicted. The canting type of goat is a play on the Greek word for goat (αίξ, pl. αίγες), and is used for mint cities whose ethnic began with the syllable aig. Svoronos argued that αίξmust refer to a female goat, as a male goat would be called τράγος. The foundation myths of Aigai in Justin also use the Latin form for a she-goat, capra. Thus, any depiction of a male goat would rule-out attributing such a coin to Aigai. This argument has been largely ignored, or unnoticed, as many still attribute all goat issues of the Macedonian region to Aigai. More recently, however, O. Picard (in “Les monnaies au bouc attribuées à Aigai” in BSFN 50/6 [1995]) and C. Lorber (in Lorber, Goats), have revived Svoronos’ theory and convincingly argue in its favor. As this coin clearly shows a male goat, its attribution cannot be to Aigai. Similarly, as the goat is not looking backward, it does not fit into the group Lorber has now attributed to the Krestones/Migdones. One other possibility is that this may be an issue of Paros, but Sheedy conclusively shows that no small fractions were struck in Paros during the archaic period. As these coins typically show up in hoards of Macedonian coinage (see, e.g., Sheedy p 112), they likely belong to an uncertain tribe in the region. My only goat on coin is this Hadrian. Hadrian, Cilicia Aegaea, circa 117 AD. AR Tridrachm 9.6 gm, GIC 1218. Toned.
Nice goats, everyone! I'll start looking out for a IOVI CRESCENTI reverse for Valerian II. That's a truly cool coin. Here is my Republican goat biga. As currently discussed in another thread, it's hard to get this type with full reverse legend and full goat horns since these denarii were typically struck on small flans. My example is a bit of a compromise: it has some horns, a mostly headless Victory, and at least most of the legend. Roman Republic, moneyer: Gaius Renius, AR denarius, 138 BC, Rome mint. Obv: helmeted head of Roma r.; behind, X. Rev: Juno in biga of goats r., wearing diadem and holding sceptre and reins in l. hand and whip in r. hand; below, C. REN; in exergue, ROM[A]. 16mm, 3.41g. Ref: RRC 231/1.
Here's my example of a Valerian II antoninianus with the IOVI CRESCENTI reverse. Not nearly as nice as ancient coin hunter's, but I do kind of like the obverse, as pencil-necked as the young Caesar may be: Valerian II Caesar, Billon Antoninianus, 257-258 AD, Cologne Mint. Obv. Radiate draped bust right, VALERIANVS CAES/ Rev. Infant Jupiter seated right on goat Amalthea walking right, looking left, with right hand raised, left hand holding goat's horn, IOVI CRESCENTI. RIC V-1 3, RSC IV 26, Sear RCV III 10731 (ill.). 22 mm., 3.70 g. (Seller's image.) This is the only coin I have fitting the theme, although I'm actually expecting a new goat to arrive in the mail in the next few days.

I saw this coin while sorting through e-mail ads. It looks like a flip-over double strike. I think I see a nose above the goat. The obverse would have to be incuse. Mine has the Dioscuri hats above.
