So I know that I have seen folks here post versions of this little Nurnberg klippe medal before, and it is not uncommon to see it pop up in European auctions a few times a year, but I have always wondered about it. This medalet commemorates the end of the 30 Years' War and the Peace of Westphalia, so why in God's green earth does a coin commemorating one of the bloodiest European conflicts in all history have a kid on a stick horse? Well, I finally won one at an auction and did some google searching. First the medal, then the article: So, just in case there was ever anybody else who wondered about this little piece, now you know the rest of the story.
Neat medal! The book looks like it might have it's date digits transposed and have 1560 instead of 1650. I think the 30 Years' War was 1618-1648.
Congrats! I have always loved this type! The first I had was a holed example, which was one of my favorite pieces in my "Holey Coin Vest" collection. In more recent years I had one which I bought from @H8_modern, which subsequently graded MS62 at PCGS.
