OK, figured 1 thread where folks could update the happenings of local (monthly, quarterly, whatever) smaller shows aside from The Biggies. Not sure they all deserve their own thread, but if someone wants to go that way (like I and others did with the Westchester Quarterly Show) feel free to do so.

I'll start this one off with.......

Mt. Kisco Coin Show: I went to this show today and I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was only about 15 minutes away from where the Westchester Coin Show (WCS) appears (which was also only 2 weeks ago)...it was slightly bigger, had more dealers, and a better variety (IMO) of stuff than at Westchester.

Saw lots of the same folks, but plenty of new ones, too. Some people who came from MA and CT don't go to the other show (or not all that often).

Anyway, it was held at the Mt. Kisco Holiday Inn...it took up 2 of those conference rooms whereas WCS only takes up 1 room....I'd say about 30-35 dealers and maybe 100 tables.

Saw some interesting NGC-slabbed ancient coins from a guy on Long Island, very impressive. Ran the gamut from $1,800 to $18,000.

I liked one guys case because all the CAC TPG slabs were in foam compartments and it looked very organized and impressive. To a newbie, I think it was enticing and a good sales catch creator. I personlly think unless you are a veteran that seeing DOZENS or HUNDREDS of coins -- particularly in those 2" white squares in 1 or 2 or 3 glass cases -- makes it tough to find something. But I guess to each his own, huh ?

Bought only a 2016 PF69 Saint-Gaudens Silver Commemorative, saving up the Big $$$ (I hope) for FUN. Can test out this thickly-slabbed coin on my new 2.68" plastic easel holders that arrived this weekend. :D

There was an interesting Barber Coin setup with some guys who belong to a national Barber Coin group. They had some interesting specimens and some interesting information on Barber and Morgan. I thought that was a nice touch. I believe they gave a talk sometime today, but not when I was there (about 1:30 PM).

I stayed for about an hour and then went home to catch the 2nd half of the Giants-Dolphins game (don't laugh :D). I'm not sure when the next Mt. Kisco show is, but I'll try and attend and also compare it to the next WCS.

I'll try and update the NYC-area shows.

Parsippany, NJ is the 1st Sunday of every month. Next one is January 5th. I'll PROBABLY go that month even though I am going to FUN a few days later. But it's a pretty good show.

Local annual coin club(Shelby County Coin Club) coin show in May. Located in Sidney, Ohio, (Home of Coin World) at the American Legion. Usually around 20 dealers. Always the Saturday following Mother's Day. Nice small show for rural West central, Ohio.

Colt's Neck Coin & Currency Show: Is anybody planning on attending ? Anybody here gone in the past?

It's a small local show, but I suspect that some of the dealers from other local shows nearby don't show up but that others closer to this location do. Net-net, you get a little new blood. That's what happened at the Mt. Kisco show (see above).

I'm going to call the number tomorrow to make sure it's on for this Saturday (appears to be a pretty regular show). If you are planning on going, post here and maybe some of us can hook up.

Cincinnati/Greenhills Classic Stamp & Coin Show - Last Sunday Of The Month

Just wanted to post this incase any collectors in the area are not aware of this excellent monthly show. I have been a customer of Jim Huffman's for several years and he is a very knowledgeable and honest dealer with a great eye for nice coins. Jim is the promoter of the Greenhills Classic Stamp & Coin Show which usually has 20+ vendors with coins and currency. There are also several vendors that sell stamps, vintage postcards, and other ephemera. Fairly busy small show with lots of activity.

I know, but don't be jealous, think about it, 45 million live within 200 miles — putting Philadelphia at the core of the country's wealthiest and most-densely populated area. I have shows that I go to every weekend, sometimes having to choose which one is best. Clubs every week. This isn't Kansas Dorothy.

Colts Neck Coin Show Report: OK, this is my first -- and LAST -- report on the Colts Neck Coin Show. Unless I happen to make friends who live within a few miles of the show, I can't see myself going again anytime soon unless and until the Jets win the Super Bowl and the Knicks are crowned NBA Champions. :D A 3-hour roundtrip to check it out and I spent about 15 minutes there.

If you're a sports fan, you get my drift: there really wasn't much there to see at this show. About 20 dealers (maybe 15)....about 40 tables...but I'd say 75% of them were baseball cards and the like. You had maybe 10 glass displays of coins and most of those were white 2x2's and low-graded stuff, mostly moderns/recents. I didn't see any high-quality Morgans, graded or not, and not 1 Saint-Gauden. A few displays with proof sets...1 dealer with a few dozen of such.....mostly low-priced graded pennies or nickels. Kinda surprising because the area is a very-high income area of NJ, not unlike Mt. Kisco NY (whose show was clearly much more upscale).

I figured I should try and buy SOMETHING and was debating buying a 2018-W PR69DCAM penny (hey, what happened to the Lincoln Memorial on the back ?) but I had a hard time spending any $$$ on something I just wan't crazy about even as a memento of what will be a trip more renowned for being a waste than of anything intersting collecting-wise. Luckily, a guy had a 1987-S American Silver Eagle PR69 DCAM and I figured whatthehell. Laid out the $$$...drove back home....and here I am.

Don't get me wrong: I'm GLAD this show exists, it's just not worth going to for 99% of CoinTalk unless you live less than 10 minutes from the show (and maybe not even then). Heck, I bought a coin to support the cause so I hope it continues. :D A few youngsters were there, hopefully they catch the buzz.

It's a bit sad because I can imagine that many of those baseball card sellers, in a somewhat semi-rural area of NJ (about 45 minutes west of the Jersey Shore), once had entire areas of square miles all to themselves as kids would come out at 3 PM every day or every few days to survey the card merchandise. I suspect that all or virtually all of them now operate out of their houses and do the card stuff PT as you can't make a living doing it FT let along paying rent and running a physical store.

Anyway, as Dennis Miller used to say on SNL, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :p

I guess I'm a little closer than you, google said 70 minutes each way and was mulling it over. Gald I decided not to go. Sounds like the Langhorne PA show but sub in stamps for sports cards. I'll never go back there. Go to Burlington NJ tomorrow if you want to see a better show. 25 or so dealers, all coins, several sell gold, at least 1 specializes in Morgans, at least one sells all varieties of bullion, one guy sells lots of toners, and then a bunch that have a variety of stuff. I'll wear my Dolphins hat, they're winning the Super Bowl before the Jets.

Just got back, didn't stay for the ASE giveaway. Show was busier than normal. I picked up a cartwheel, so I can check that off my list. I found 3 Cuban coins, and a 1978 proof Colombian 500 peso b/c it has a huge gator on it, the WWF coin. Finally I picked up 30 clad ikes. Always a good time at Burlington, and I don't have to pay any tolls to get there.

I saw several double eagles, several eagles, lots of quarter eagles. Raw and graded. I would say 20 to 25 dealers. Not too many ancients. One dealer specializes in Morgans, probably had many in that range. I don't swim in that pool though. I can get their contact info to save you the trip b/c I'm guessing you're north of the city.

Don't worry, MKU....if I'm down there on a Saturday night I'll visit. It's only 40 minutes from my parents.
