ImRich, I DO live alone. And it's not for everyone but for a slab only, it's not a bad option in an obscure location. Take a 2009 UHR. In a slab, can be hid virtually anywhere. OTOH, if it's in the wooden case and OGP, the size increases 30-fold and it's much less practical. Unless you live in a really rural isolated home thieves are not going to want to stay 15 or 30 or 45 minutes in your home for the most part. They want to get in -- and get the hell out. Another reason to consider a few token $$$ in a drawer or desk near an entrance -- they may just take that and vamoose.
The times are changing. Jails are so crowded now that thieves know getting caught for non violent offenses carries little penalty in many areas. They are not that concerned about getting caught in such areas.
Those are cool old safes, does it have the inner door with wooden shelves and drawers? I have a friend that helped move someone's home contents across town. He made $1000 and an older safe about that size. Inside the safe was a receipt for $1500 that the previous owner paid at an antique shop. Problem with the 100 year old safes is they get a little finicky if your into them often.
