Got these 7 coins from a bag of unidentified coins labeled "Old but not Ancient" at a local coin shop. (My 15-year-old waggishly said the same description could apply to me.) I think I've figured out 5 of them so far. From top row, left to right: 1) Poland, 1755, Copper 3 Soldi = 1 Grosz, (August III) 2) Corsica, 1764, Billon 4 Soldi (General Pasquale Paoli) 3) Duchy of Lorraine, 1726 (or 1727), Billon 30 Deniers (Leopold I) 4) Poland, 1767, Copper 1 Grosz (Stanislaus Augustus, "SAR" monogram) 5) Venice, Crete Colony (Kingdom of Candia?), ~1610, Copper 1 Soldino (I can't find it in Krause, but here on Numista) 6) Don't know (1633 date? 1/3 something?) 7) Don't know, I'm curious about the six-spoked wheel counterstamp Any corrections or help with the unidentified ones would be much appreciated!
I think you're right on the city, thanks! The obverse has the inscription "M CIVI WIDEN" and the rest is wiped out by the counterstamp. It looks like KM#26 from my 1600s Krause guide, made from 1653-1693. The date is obscured by the blot from the stamp, though. Looks like there may be some varieties. Most of these in my guide don't even have pictures. Here's a similar one from 1634 with flowers around the III instead of ovals.
I think #6 has an orb with a cross on it containing the number 3, probably for 3 pfenning from one of the German states. Here's a similar pattern from Silesia (not mine). I haven't been able to figure out the coat of arms on the other side. It looks like 3 shields, the top with a lion rampant, the lower left with a 4-legged animal I can't make out, and the lower right perhaps an eagle. Is there a good reference to do an image search for coats of arms for the German States.
