Ebay number 114060628944, (sorry doing this from phone so no link). Openly selling 5 gold plated "Perth mint gold bullion bars". Bragging how they are cheaper than Chinese sites but not providing a coa like the other sites are. Makes you want to not even look at Ebay is they are going to let the same stuff as Alibaba be listed.... The US needs much stronger laws against such things.
Looking at his sold items, he's doing a booming business in all manner of fake bullion products. What a great look for eBay.
I have seen a lot of these Chinese fakes being sold on the bay as real gold. Having said that this seller explains what they are plain as day in his description and even mentions they are Gold Plated in his title so I would not report him for this sale.
But, he has ASEs for sale that are silver plated and do not have the word copy as required by the 1978 Hobby Protection Act. Also, isn't selling "Perth Mint" gold plated bars a violation of Perth mint's copyright? I understand he is selling them as plated objects, but selling them is still illegal for many reasons, and everyone in coin collecting is damaged by him selling them.
I would and did. Here's the specific eBay policy that his listings violate. Of course, enforcement is obviously almost nonexistent, but they can remove his listings and/or ban him if enough people make enough of a fuss. That explains why we can report him. I hope we all agree on why we should report him. We may not be able to do anything about the manufacturers of these fraud tools, but any time we can do something to block their distribution, we should.
I had a long discussion with eBay about this. They will not take any action at all (certainly not stop anyone selling) unless you purchase the item and send it to an expert (such as a grading company) to verify that it is indeed not as described. Your opinion is not enough. Usually this works because Nike or Adidas will complain, but not with collectables
If you are correct, I would say anyone owning Ebay stock should sell. The seller is admitting to selling fake US coins, (silver plated replicas the mint has never made). If Ebay says they will not stop active counterfeiting, at some point Congress (hopefully) will open Ebay up to a slew of lawsuits. You cannot claim ignorance if the seller of the item admits they are fakes, at that point you are aiding and abetting US counterfeiting, something none of us should stomach.
There are members here who are plugged into a group at eBay that can and does make such listings disappear. They're just too small to keep ahead of the flood of garbage, I guess.
