I have roughly 470 oz of silver to consider. 80 ASE 41 Philharmonics 27 Maples 14 Kangaroos 12 Generic Rounds (1oz) 4 Britannia 1 Libertad 1 Libertad (2oz) 505 90% Dimes 323 90% Halves 713 90% Quarters 10 Peace Dollars So far 2 LCS have offered $7,200 est & $7,350 est. It's about 90-92% to total melt. Still seems very low to me. Still waiting on 2 more shops with their estimates but it seems I'll be getting the same. Maybe I just try Craigs or eBay instead of a LCS?
If I was selling this via Craig's list I would have to meet them in a police station to do this transaction, and then, you're still not safe afterwards.
If you sell it here, read the pinned messages from Peter and Doug. For that amount of money a person sometimes on either end decides to depart and join another website. We do have less problems than the sites you mentioned above. IMO, Jim
Maybe APMEX? You do have to pay for shipping and I would have to get insurance to cover the value of the package with Register Mail.
Me too, I wanna sell!!! Banks are buying gold, they gonna die trying to repeat history, stay in the market. Dont let them win. I'm going to a local coin dealer. I cant deal with shipping.
A 90% return is pretty good considering other things people buy. How much could you get for selling a tv? Or common books? Or common CDs or LPs? Collectors plates? Precious Moments? Beany Babies? Or most furniture? Getting 90% back is pretty extraordinary for a large swath of collectibles. Coins and commodity metals are rarely a 100%+ game.
$15.80 or so per ounce seems low. I'd follow the suggestions above, e.g., selling on CT, perhaps in smaller bundles. Steve
Well if you owned the website you could do it, but since you don't, all you can do is write Doug or Peter and tell them to make us do it. When they do, I assure you it will be done. Jim
I frequently sell 90% to dealers at local coin shows, where there's enough competition to keep the offers up (except when nobody really wants to buy, which has happened a couple of times this year). I get less than the going rate on eBay, but more than I'd clear after fees and shipping, never mind the risk of a bogus buyer. I could get a little bit more (a couple of percent) by selling to one of the big online PM dealers like APMEX, but then I'd have to meet their minimum. (I don't think you'd have a problem there, last I checked APMEX had a $1000 minimum.) I've never gotten a table at a local show. I think around here it's about $100 a table. You might come out ahead doing that, but then you have to mind your table for most of a day.
I just went through an estate sale and what I learned was, most of it becomes garbage. You literally cannot even give it away.
Same experience. We just sold the entire house contents, including around 100 Precious Moments, with original boxes, for $800. Take the deal at the coin shop for its security, convenience, speed, and free yourself from scores of hours of work for essentially pennies an hour to make a tiny bit more. You could use the time to work at a fast food place or bagging groceries and make back the rest.
Yeah, we just went through the heart-wrenching process of dispersing a lifetime's worth of treasures from my in-laws. There were some pieces with really cool provenance that just couldn't find the right buyer, and that we couldn't make room for here. Some of them may end up in a landfill. (Come to think of it, most everything will, eventually.)
alucard, you have some coins that sell for a pretty nice premium on ebay. Personally, I'd wait and see what happens with silver in 2020, but if you want to move them I'd do it when ebay has a fee promo that limits the final value fee to around $10 and then sell them in around 3-5 different auctions. Good luck.
CST or always going to give you the lower end of what your asking, i recommend Shopping them outside your local area for a better deal.
