The whole thing looks coated to me. Once the webbing strip is smashed into the coin to make one single unit, then run through the coating process, everything would get coated. Are you supporting the theory that this is a struck-through webbing, or challenging it?

    Another Numismatic Pareidolia explanation.

However, what you see on the reverse of the cent
has nothing to do with a punched planchet strip piece
    of webbing.

It's due to damage - period

I said damage in the first page. I still say it's damaged. Nothing I know of could create an error like that at the US Mint. At your house in the garage or basement, yes, is very possible.

How would it come out of the coating process with exposed zinc along that edge?

I see a design that's flattened on the higher parts, as I'd expect if something mashed the coin after it was struck. That's not what I'd expect to see if the coin went through the striking process with a piece of webbing stuck to it.

I don't think this is struck-through webbing, because I haven't yet seen an example of zinc webbing coated in copper.

    Hi! Thanks for the warm

Oh! "TN"! I get it..duh! I want a cool user name. I'm doing my best, but it's kindof hard to follow y'all because I feel like you're speaking a foreign language, plus all the acronyms. It gets overwhelming.

Thank you for the warm welcome. It was in a roll of pennies that I got from my local bank on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I took your advice and read up on how coins are made. That was helpful. And you can never offend me in this. As I mentioned, I'm the first one to admit that I haven't a clue as to what I'm doing. I'm just having fun. I wish yall could see this "thing" in person. A lot of the comments don't really match what the coin, actually, looks like in real life. I can see how optical illusions can appear in photographs. For instance, it's definitely, only one coin, but I can see how it appears to be, possibly two glued together in the photos. What do I know?! It's all very interesting. I appreciate the advice:) Thank you!

My first instinct is "The Nickel Kid"...self explanatory. However, we need to find something clever based on this extraordinary penny...

What is "coating"? I wish you could see this "thing" in person... your theory would feel even more validated. As I mentioned, I've been home with the flu
I so wish you could see the weird "thing" in person. Honestly, I immediately, based on my tiny bit of knowledge, said "damage". However, since I've had so much time on my hands with this dang flu, I've been doing so much research and I'm now only 99% sure it's damaged. I realize you guys have been doing this for years, so I totally trust you...but there's just that tiny percent, based on my research, yalls feedback, and seeing it in person that has me questioning this "thing". Trust me, it has nothing to do with money or seeing something that isn't there. It's more about the history and playing detective, while educating myself in my new found hobby aka addiction.:) You guys have been great!
