My first Sirmium Mint coin.

    Just picked up my second Arcadius Solidus this month from Gorny & Mosch Auction yesterday.
    AV Solidus ND struck circa 393-95 AD Sirmium Mint in Serbia
    4.46g. 23mm. stempelglanz=MS 01545Q00.jpg
    Pearl-diademed/draped/ ciurassed bust right
    DN ARCADI-VS PFAVG
    Emperor standing right/ holding standard/ globe surmounted by Victory/ foot on captive
    VICTORI-A AVGGG.H
    S-M Sirmium Mint
    RICIX 15(b) C Depeyrot 34/1


    Weak Emperor who was told what to do by his wife/ chief advisors and Alaric.

    Weak emperor; strong strike; excellent type. IMO this
    is a gold coin with more going for it than being gold. Really, though, someone could explain the H after AVGGG. It appears Sirmium was using eight officina for gold striking gold only at that time. Educational.

    Today, was my first day off work since June 12th. We had a total rainout....so my loving wife made me do housework all day:(:(:(:(:(:(:(! I guess, she and my clientelle think I am one their slaves....
    Back to coins, yeah I ended up with 2 examples of Arcadius Solidi/ one really nice one from Roma/ and this one from Gorny&Mosch. Now, I will have to get a Solidus from Arcadius spouse Aelia Eudoxia!
