So, how much do you think they will increase prices due to the changes?

Increased security means increased prices aka increased profits for them.

The way I read it, only the collector versions and the proof will get the security treatment, while the new reverse design will appear on all production. The common bouillon coins will not get the security treatment. I heard Mezak mention the proposed change on TV some time ago, but he did not say that the changes would appear as soon as the cited article does. This is exciting news.

So it sounds like they have already made the decision on the design if they plan on announced it in the near future.

I couldn't care less about the security/anti-counterfeiting stuff. It's probably just a waste of money. We've lived this long without it. It will only increase the price for us. Besides, someone will figure out a way around it.

I'm more concerned about the design. They should have run the options through this forum first. ;)

    Thanks for sharing!

Knowing the artistry we have on current US Mint issues, I will expect UGLY, but will hope for better.

In the year 2000, you could buy one of everything the Mint had to offer for about $8,000. In 2006, you had to spend close to $20,000 for one of everything. What do you think it would cost today? $30,000? $40,000? More?

    Exciting? You call this exciting?

They might do something similar to Maple Leafs with laser mark.

Can anyone explain the whole DNA thing they're talking about in language a common person can understand? I know what DNA is normally, but not clear how they're using it in regard to these coins....

In other words, we will let the counterfeiters know what they need to do to to get their products out.

That wouldn't include any of the equipment necessary to make the coins.

It,s really a mute point, when you look at it as the counterfeiters will always
Find a way to beat the system and make replica coins that look authentic
And will pass as the real thing, and the people buying these have to know
About these features as well so letting them know i think would be a
    Big challenge as well.

Are the new maples being counterfeited, or are the bad guys sticking with the older design?

Oh, and BTW, my excitement was over the new reverse design that's headed for 2021 or 2022 release, nothing else.

I liked the "Soaring Eagle" reverse of the Sac dollar and was building a complete set of business strikes in MS68. Then, they had to go and mess with the reverse on it. Even the edge lettering sucks!

The American Silver Eagle is the most identifiable coin in the world, and called one of the most beautiful U.S. coins ever minted. So of course the U.S. Mint is going to mess with that! Why not just incorporated anti-counterfeiting measures like the Canadians, and keep the "most beautiful and best selling" reverse as is?
