I sold all of my 40% in April 2011 when She was at $42/oz. People were so hungry to buy any silver near the top of the bubble that I sold it at melt.

    Good times.

Hang on for a bit and we might be back there.

That is a lot of silver to pull from circulation in a couple of years.

I had a good run for a few months. I pulled ~10 rolls of Walkers/Bens/and 90% Kens too. Lately I've been mostly skunked.

apmex sells them for 5x face value now - so only 1 ct / oz over spot

ask them what they pay for them

I’d wait to sell but if you need money at least sell on a schedule. Think Dollar Cost Averaging in reverse. Sell once a month $50 face.

40% JFKs and 35% war nickels are tough to sell anywhere near melt - expect to receive significantly less - 90% silver coins do much better since they are more desireable.
Since yours are from circulation and not purchased at a premium, anything you can over 50c face value is a bonus - seek out the best offers and good luck! ;)

Ok, ok, let's get rational here.

We know he pulled these 40%s from circulation. But that doesn't mean he should give them away for less than he thinks they are worth.

We should all know that war nickels and 40% Kennedys are not good investments. However, there is nothing wrong with getting them for face value. Why would you pass on free money?

I just keep seeing the same posts over and over again about 40% halves, and I wish we'd stop repeating ourselves.

This is what I was wondering. My LCS Guy is as good as they come. He isn’t thrilled about the 40% stuff and will reluctantly take it. A load like that may be worth looking up smelters on the web.

I went off to check Apmex's current buy price, but it looks like they've entirely stopped listing buy prices. :( The amount here would surely be above their old $1000 actual-value threshold, though...

Thats the same way I feel, I have a small amount of old class rings to get rid of. Who, Who, Who, To get the best deal from?

Well, the gems in it will be basically worthless. (But check what they are first). Small diamonds essentially have no value.

Unfortunately if your ring is 10 or 14k gold it is probably only 3 grams or maybe 4. AGW for that will be about 1.25-1.66 grams (if 10 karat) and 1.75-2.3g (if 14k). With gold at $1500, that's $48 per gram.
That's $60-$110ish melt value. I doubt you'd get more than $50-$100 for it.

That is kinda what I am figuring, The men's one is much bigger than the women's. All from 1950's But then again the mens fake jewel is bigger too I was hoping for $100. but don't know where to take them. have a bunch of 40 %ers also that was thinking of trading up to ASE's

A reputable coin shop that specializes in bullion should give you close to melt. But also it doesn't hurt to go into a few places to see. A jewelry store will likely offer less, but more than a pawn shop or a "we buy gold" hut.

    So, what did you do?

With silver at $18.30 right now, did you sell all at $17 or only some and still have some for today?

I got busy with my classes and didn't get around to putting any feelers out. Looks my laziness made me an extra $242.91 melt value lol.

I doubt anyone is still following or caring about this thread....but I sold $250 face today for 4.5x face. Was cut a check for $1125, or $875 profit.
That money went to pay for newborn baby photos and this... (my other hobby)

About 2 times face but I'm holding all mine till they get back up to the 10 times they were about 10 years ago.

Nice! It's enough to make me feel a little regret for all I sold at 4x.

Who knows; in another couple of years, it could be back up to 10x, or back down to 2-3x. But at some point, weget tired of tripping over the things, and would rather have the cash.
