Hope the head on shots are better than before; still trying to figure out how too shoot uncirculated quarters. Finished a bag of Philly Memorial Parks last night. Boy I thought that was the biggest waste of time. Every coin was a horrible worn die with fat and/or weak letters on the obverse and 50% chance there was some sort of stain. This was the only thing I found, but it seemed worth it because I got a good chuckle. This is just awful positioning and I think the die should be fired its job as it obviously got bored and tired. Not sure what it struck, but it is incused.
What kind of lighting are you using? For a coin that is supposedly uncirculated, this one appears to have no luster at all. Chris
I am trying all sorts of things and the luster is actually my problem in why I am struggling to get a good picture. Here's the current setup I tried to take the first two pictures. Trying all I can to not let light completely wash out the coin, but also trying to find a way to not show every micro scratch like these pictures were https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2019-s-business-strike-lowell-quarter-machine-double.346845/ EDIT: Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
@cpm9ball Still trying stuff, but here's a photo with the lights above facing downward and no paper ring and no plastic bags on the lights. This is what I am trying to cleanup.
Your last photo is definitely an improvement. To compare your photo with another, try taking the photos with a pair of lights at 10:00 & 2:00 at an angle of 45 degrees. That way the reflection will bounce away from the camera lens. Then decide which you like the best. Chris
Wow! Meow just has the Catlaptop with usb camera. Extra LED light in paw for highlighting or shading.
Thanks?... lol Think I got the best I am going to get. Raised the coin up. Powered up the lights I was using before and positioned them mostly like suggested. Thanks for the suggestion @cpm9ball
Dang dude! with all that "set up" you could go and buy a roll of DDOs lol! With gear like that your ready for anything! I actually think the photography is half the fun. When we track new "bugs" in the lab and need good pics of viral flow cytometry to get load counts, can I send you a colony of virus lol!
Hehe yea. The photography is pretty fun thankfully. Slowly been piecemealing it over the last year. Since I am losing room in few months, the tripod needed to be traded for a copy stand.
