I was amazed by the quality of die engraving on such a small coin. Doug, it sounds like robe pattern may be an interesting variation to watch out for.

Jb's and mine came from the same seller which had an impressive selection from this mint.

Your robe is more intricate and not as common and it is found on several workshops.

I am not sure why anyone even cites Mcalee except for copy and paste or reference overload. This is the book The Coins of Roman Antioch. If you don’t have it yet, don’t bother getting it because you think it might have some information on these coins, it seems to include the pagan civic coins as an afterthought and then only a few examples-- I have included a scan of the entire section below.

I use it (172a) for the one I posted on the previous page because his is the only reference that mentions it. Before finding the supplement, I thought it was unpublished.

I had not looked at the supplement, which I just looked up. It references a prior coin sold by CGB, which can be as easily referenced as an online supplement. Lech also has a page for it-- http://www.notinric.lechstepniewski.info/6ant_civ_4v.html

That exact coin is on other sites as well. I used McAlee because I think more people are familiar the book, not saying which is better and links can go stale. I would be flattered if others used my page on these as a reference. Books are neccessary, but quickly become out of date.

I see the posts above refer to these as 1/4 follis and 1/12 nummus. I have never been comfortable with them having any denomination label. Comments?
