I've admired these gold ducats for years, I don't have any do you? The Netherlands mints these ducats every year and they have been their number one coin since 1724? Dang, that's a long time! I think Doug used to collect these but I could be wrong, I vaguely remember someone used to have these and knew a lot about them. Great looking design! Anyone? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducat https://www.ebay.com/itm/1927-Nethe...78AAOSwkq9dFoi3:sc:USPSFirstClass!95822!US!-1
No. He was already too old to help at the mint. They kicked him out. He had to look at every coin that was minted and it was slowing them down.
Yep, they have been issued since 1586. The ducats (golden ducat, double g.d., silver ducat) are still referred to in today's Dutch Coinage Act, as "munten zonder de hoedanigheid van wettig betaalmiddel" (coins without the status of legal tender) by the way. The current (2018-2021) gold ducat series symbolizes Dutch trade: The 2018 piece has grain ears and an N (for Noord/North) at the top, the 2019 ducat features a ship, as a reference to the VOC, and an O (for Oost/East) on the right ... Wow, great looking toned one up there! Nice! Since 1586, dang that is really cool! I want one but it'll be awhile before I can get the extra ducats to buy one with!
I don't see these at shows or shops so I don't indulge. You can usually get them online on bullion sites though.
Guess that, if you simply want one of them regardless of the year, you may get it at a local show. But this year's gold pieces for example, have mintages of 798 (single ducat) and 634 (double ducat). The silver ducats (province specific, different design) are somewhat easier to get, with mintage figures between 2,000 and 4,000 ... Christian
Maybe in Europe that is true sir. I personally have not seen one in any local show here, only in larger regional or national shows. I doubt there are very many collectors of these at all here in the states, and most get such coin online. Probably very similar to ancient coins. I haven't found an ancient I wish to own at a local coin show in years.
Yes I think that's true! I've found that most US coin collectors, collect basic "white bread coins." Meaning, most collectors here in the US only collect US Mint issued coins. That's cool, to each their own!
MA-Shops has some ducat coins: https://www.ma-shops.com/shops/sear...t&catid=6&submitBtn=Search&lang=en&PHPSESSID=
Yes in Europe these are probably a dime a dozen but in California you just don't see them around at any of the coin shows I've been to. That said, I've never been to the Long Beach coin show so maybe they have them there, idk. I bought a 1985 off of the bay that was delivered today. Of course, I wanted to show it off but my wife has as much coin enthusiasm as a tree stump! I hope she never sees this or I'll be in the dog house! So y'all here on CoinTalk are gonna have to put up with me showing off on this one! My cell phone pic and the sellers pics! Twenty smacks over spot, I think I did alright!
