I sold a coin last night on eBay. It was a buy it now and was a fairly common world coin. Sold for $1.40. I packed it up and shipped it right away. Today I got an email from eBay telling me there was a suspicious buyer and they had to cancel the bid. I already sent the coin, and the money is in my Paypal account. It's odd. This happened to me one other time and everything seemed to be fine. I kept the money and the mail was apparently delivered. Below is the text of the email from eBay: We had to cancel bids for the buyer, cbil_us_fmbprz, because they aren't registered on eBay: 264337438219 - 1931 Italy 10 centesimi coin We've also made it easy to relist your item if it was removed. Sounds like he went NARU (not a registered user). Got banned, in other words. That's my guess, anyway. Got banned sometime between the bid and the end of the auction.
Never that, but then again I've sold only a handful of items in the last few years. Back when I was a heavier seller, LOTS of things were different. (Some of those changes are why I mostly stopped selling.) I have, however, gotten similar email after buying an item. If I recall correctly, I already had tracking info when the email came, and my item arrived without incident. (And no, it wasn't a fake coin, at least not that time.)
It was a buy it now and he paid right away so that's what's weird about it. There was no "bid" involved. Makes me wonder if there's some kind of glitch. I have a lot of sales to people like this with gibberish user names and no feedback, and I think eBay lets people checkout as a guest or something and that's why that happens.
Huhm. Dunno. Been a while since I sold stuff there. I tried finding the username to confirm the NARU but couldn't. Found your auction but it wouldn't let me access the original- that goes to an error page. Maybe it's a guest user thing, like you said.
That's really strange, anytime I get an email from ebay I always make sure it's in my account messages as well as there are so many fakes you never know. If you're certain it was a legitimate email from ebay I wouldn't worry about it as you did everything you were supposed to do so. Really strange though, if the buyer wasn't registered with ebay how could they buy your item? As long as you didn't get paid with an "E" check, I wouldn't worry about it. Strange!
