Am I the only one that thinks this coin looks fake? Cert matches, but the coin looks dull. Hologram looks odd, too. I don’t have any, and not really familiar with, just came across. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1908-D-20-Saint-Gaudens-Double-Eagle-21-6ct-Gold-Coin-Cased-And-Pcgs-Numberd/192938707498?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
There is absolutely no point in even considering buying a coin like that from an overseas seller with less than a stellar record. I can’t tell from those pictures whether the coin is genuine, but the hologram does look off.
Why would the seller let a $5000 coin go for less than 25% of its value? Why does the coin look low AU while the label says MS65? 3 negative/neutral feedbacks with only 50 transactions so far? It’s not a PCGS secure slab, so we don’t have online pictures for comparison. Slab looks off anyways. Boy, way too many problems and I didn’t even have a closer look at the coin itself....
Both halves of the slab have conspicuous lands for ejector pins from the injection molding tools. I don't recall seeing those on any of the PCGS holders.
Fake coin. The color and luster are all wrong, especially for an “MS-65.” From the sub-par photos, done that way for a reason, it looks AU. Getting a matching certification number is easy. You just copy it from a real coin with the same date and mint mark. The rest, fake slab and coin, is harder.
I’d say 1) cast/fake coin 2) self-slab holder but maybe 3) a genuine label... or a pretty good copy. Auction ended a couple of hours ago and 64 (!) bids were made - way too many even if half of them were shill bids. Somebody made a big mistake today.
Too bad the pictures aren't better so we could get more education about the nature of the fake. Certainly doesn't look right.
Here are cropped photos for you. They are a little fuzzy, but it shows missing center details which makes this piece a pretty bad casting. Every time you see bad photos in a coin offering on the Internet, an alarm bell should go off in your head. They are too often bad for a reason that won't do you any good.
Because the coin looks fake. Doesn’t matter what the slab says; I didn’t even check the database. I didn’t even look long at the slab, which is also an obvious fake.
I KNOW THAT BUT if it is fake how it could fool the expert at pcgs i like to know is every slab of pcgs is fake ??????!!!!!!!!!
What someone did was make a new label for a coin that is already graded. The real graded coin is somewhere out there still in the real slab. This is a copy.
