RCC old-timers???

Anyone remember this??

I miss the RCCers and the discussions we had back in the day - I know there are some of them here, now, but I don't know where most of the others went.

OTOH, I'm also enjoying "meeting" new people here! Do members of this group have any distinguishing trinkets (pins, hats, etc.) that they wear to coin shows, so others in the group can identify them?

Visigoths go to a kegger was the heyday RCC.

I have the beating a dead horse with a stick RCC token. They were hammer struck by some guy in Canada--can't remember his name.

Once AOL stopped carrying the newsgroups they were doomed. Especially the RCC. Seems like everyone was using AOL back then.

 

I remember RCC well...started lurking there around '93 or '94, eventually started posting too (not under the Parthicus tag, but under my real name). It was pretty friendly, at least in the discussions I participated in, but I definitely remember some fights that went well beyond good-natured joshing.

 

I remember when RCC got sued.

 

I was a lurker there beginning sometime in the late '90s, I think. I don't recall the crest, though. Maybe that was before or after my time.

 

I was there...like Parthicus I used my name rather than an alias. Better today when we can actually see pics of the coins we are discussing.

Of course, there were always "those guys" who insisted on posting pics to a text only use group.

 

Yeah, I was there and the legal problems and reactions slowed my interest and I was more jazzed with computers and running an educational organization website, that I lost interest for a coupe of years, lurked here for a few years and then joined. For those who wonder what the legal situation was can find some here.

As soon as I clicked on the link I remembered RCC; was never a follower. Too many other things to do.

I do remember being on an old time chat room and selling my first coins over the internet which was phone linked and at 1400 baud. A fellow asked me it I had any Italian 100 lira coins for sale. Went to the shop where we had a bushel. I told him I did, he asked and I said a dollar apiece. He took ten; I sent him the coins, he sent me back a check. Crazy n'est ce pas? It was for a family event.

This was in about 87 or so if my poor memory still works.

 

I still remember the sound of my 110 baud modem as it connected to one of the few other locals with one, and the outer space twittering tweets ( before twitter was born) as bits went back and forth. Now 100 megs on the internet! When will the brain be wired for wifi??? Sooner then one might think.

Have you watched Black Mirror? Sort of a high-tech version of The Twilight Zone, with most episodes set in the near future, and dealing with how technology can really screw things up in a plausibly frightening way.

 

I think in less than 10 years for brain-->brain/computer communication. Imagine what Hawking could have told us during his last few months. If humankind survives that long.

Yes, I know you remember it! I was there at that time, but, luckily, I wasn't dragged into that mess!
