it's a Pope John Paul II coin, token, or medal. I don't see a date. Look on the edges. Can anyone else provide further help?
IMO I don't think it's a coin because I can't make out a date, country of origin, or denomination. It is a token or medal of Pope John Paul II with the Papal Crest on the reverse. Google it if no one can offer further help.
JOANNES PAVLVS II PONT.MAX .- Vintage medal The example on eBay is in better condition but the asking price is US$12.99
As mentioned, it's some kind of papal medal, and not a coin. Looks aluminum? John Paul II was pope from 1978-2005, so that dates it as a fairly modern piece.
From my understanding, they sell these things all over the Vatican. I picked up one for $1 out of a junk bin. Silver plated with some other type of metal underneath.
