These filled the void that existed because Canada wasn't a country, and Britain didn't want to waste money on territory they knew they would eventually lose. These are very collectible, and still affordable. There are a few rare varieties. You need to get a copy of the Charlton catalog of Canadian Coins.

In case it is not obvious, values shown are in Canadian Dollars. This is a good source for all coins and many tokens of Canada and Provinces IMO.
I love this type. I had a holed example (an 1842 full penny) on my old Holey Coin Vest. I'd love to have an AU-UNC (unholed) example one day.
