Do you collect old holders?

I’m curious. How many of you actually collect old holders — not for the coin, but for the style and age of the slab itself? Defunct grading companies?

I don’t but I’m sure that some of you do. Share them in pictures if you wish.

I have an interest the original holders that contained U.S. commemorative coins, both old and modern, but the slab holder thing has never done much for me.

There are some old slab holders that I avoid unless I really like the coin. For example I don't care for the old PCGS rattle holders at all because the name "rattle holder" sums up those devices for me.

I don't collect them particularly but I do find it to be an added bonus

 

I don't really collect them but I will buy a coin that I like in them. I have a couple of OGH, two older no line fatties, one doily, and one raised logo fatty. I also have a few nice peace dollars in the old ANA/ANCS little white soap bar holders. I'd really like a nice peace dollar in a NGC 2.0 while label. Maybe one day I find one that's not 10X premium.

I have also toyed with the idea of collecting older commems in the NGC fatty holder. I think that would be fun and challenging.

 

Well... I wouldn't call myself a collector of these things. See, I have this disease. I cannot sell a coin that I own.... I purchased this back when the whole "graded coin" thing was getting hot. I wanted a graded coin and this was the first I happened upon. It is unruly and impossible to store. But I am stuck with it.

I saw a Stone Mountain half in its original packaging this past weekend at my coin club. It was a fascinating piece

 

I stopped by a coin store when I was traveling last summer and saw this. I would have bought it but the coins didn't catch my eye, however the coolness of this old David Hall "slab" was cool especially as a set.

 

Ooooh, the Texas Commem is Meow's favorite. It is a beautiful coin. Also it is a bit out this Cats price range for now. But one day Meow will get paws on a nice one.

 

Meow does not have many high value coins, but did buy a few small ANACS holdered nickels. Meow has seen they call them soap bars. Meow likes them better than the newer ANACS holders.

 

If $600 was the total asking price for all 3 coins (and had room to negotiate down), then that was a solid price. Commems aren’t as common in those flips (mostly one sees Franklins and Mercury Dimes). Some Morgans (common dates) went for a bit over $250 at auction recently and an Iowa Commem sold for $125 (I think it could have done better if the first photo showed the whole flip and not just the coin).

The one old school commem Meow does have is the Iowa half. It was reasonably priced, and pretty too. It is a PCGS MS66. Now only if Meow could get a MS66 Texas half for the price of an Iowa...…………..

 

Wow, Meow has not seen some of the holders put on display here before. Old school holders have such an elegant aura about them.
