That '95-o dime is nice. Rare date to boot. Is the quarter a Proof? It has nice broad rims especially the reverse. Part of the rim on the reverse looks to have knife like edge. On the obverse the stars are exceptionally well struck!
Oh, be still my beating heart. I love toned gold like that. Here is a toned goldgulden I had. Unfortunately not a dated one like yours are. One day I hope to own a Levinson-listed early-dated gold coin.
You don't see many love token Barber dimes with the mint mark still visible on the reverse. I think the quarter is one of the early circ strikes. Proof would be okay though.
The next five pieces from Aachen have what I and others refer to as "mixed" dates. On each, the word the date starts with "Millesimo", the word used for "thousand", then "CCCC" for four hundred, and with this date, the word "UND" for eleven. The 1411 is one of the easier pieces to locate. This piece once belonged to David Cervin.
On this piece the "5" in the 1405 date is written "QUINTO". I didn't catch the cropping of the picture during the edits, but most of the word is still visible. This was the last piece I needed to complete my "Very Early Dated" portion of my collection. The 1410 and 1413 are prohibitively rare with only 2-3 for each date known.
The second "4" in the date 1404 is written as "QUARTO". When I started collecting Early Dated coins I never thought I would have any of the VERY early ones. I thought that they would be MEGA bucks. Karl Stephens had this and a 1420 on his price list and I bought them both. His price for the pair was very reasonable. If you get a chance to look thru his inventory, do so. Many, many nice pieces!!
The "3" in the date, 1403, is written "TERCIO". I bought this at a Heritage Auction at the CICF show in 2013. I attended many of those shows over the years, I wish they would bring them back. This piece is in a NGC slab.
Beautifull Tibor... Here is my 1437 AV Tanka Shadiabad Mint dated AH 841 1437AD 'Ala' al-Din Mahmud Shah I Sultan of Malwa
Yes! Here is a really old dated coin, just won it in Triton XXII Kings of the Bosphorus AV Stater dated BE459 = 162AD obverse: King Eupator reverse: Emperors Marcus Aurelius/ Lucius Verus Three rulers on a coin! BE= Bosphoran Calender ONV=459
This groschen from the Aachen mint. It is also in NGC plastic. Their grade: F 15. The 1402, 1403 and 1405 are really tough in nice grade and rarely show up. The "2" in the date is written as "SECVNDO".
This Gros from the Schoonvorst mint. Schoonvorst-Sichem along with Aachen were the first to strike dated coinage. Both struck pieces in 1372. The Aachen piece, location unknown. Schoonvorst struck dated coinage again from 1390- 1394. The 1391 is most available but finding a readable, clear date is a challenge. Schoonvorst also struck coinage in 1440-1444. Except for the 1444 these are extremely rare. The 1372 Schoonvorst piece is located in a museum.
From the Jungheit mint. This date when found, usually is pretty nice. The obv. with the figure Charlemagne is rather well preserved. This and the 1374 are two of my favorites!!
This Groschen struck at the Jungheit mint. This piece is generally accepted as the first collectable Early Dated coin. It does show up at auction occasionally. This is another one of my favorites. Well, this concludes my Early Dated presentation of my collection. I have a few more but I'll post those after Todd works his magic. Thank you for showing so much interest. Thanks goes out to @talerman and @lordmarcovan for their insight and encouragement. Thanks goes out to @panzerman for sharing so many of his treasures. A very special THANK YOU goes to @HoledandCreative for encouraging me on this project and for sharing so many of his treasures from his collection.
A truly remarkable collection of early dated European coins, Tibor Thank you for sharing them with us, your coins and the history behind them was very enlightening. For me, it was esp. a treat, since I visited Aachen, Koln, Julich, Mainz often. I lived in the area. John
