Hello everyone. I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the grade of this 1932 P quarter. It came in a set with much lower grade D and S coins, but I am curious if this may be worth sending in to grade. It has good eye appeal, IMO.
Looks to be a low grade MS to me. Still, not worth the cost of grading. Put it in an airtight and call it a day.
The toning on that coin is very questionable IMO, I think it would details grade for questionable color.
The more I look at it the more I think it is MS. The mark on the neck bothers me, and I don't like the mushy IGWT. If it's not QC, I would be 62/63. It's a weak strike as evidenced by the poor eagle feather details. Even though the rev. is nice. Washington's are tough to grade.
I agree on the tough to grade aspect. You can see a light strike in the ribbon in his hair as well. It does look better in person that it does in pictures. Very nice luster.
If it had been in an album for 50 years, is it correct that the reverse shows little toning and the exposed side shows a lot? And now that I read the above (simul postings) the other old coins should show the same toning. If they don't, that seems suspicious.
That is why they say 'questionable'. It's the TPGs way of CYA, and not taking a stand one way or the other. I would say it's NT, but I don't slab them.
Hard to say, but it does not look like artificial toning in person as much as it does on the computer screen.
It's a nice coin. IDT it needs grading. But if you roll the dice and it comes up high like MS 65 the value goes way up. This is really on the fence. You never know what they are going to say, although they seem to have tightened the reins a little. I don't think it's higher than 63.
At 64 it sheet's at $75, anything under that is a waste of money sending it to NGC. I may just send it with other coins when I get enough to send more in, just for giggles.
