I don’t have much knowledge on error coins but have always had an interest. Having been a bad of error coins by a relitive, I’m hoping to learn more about what I now have in my possession, and what errors I Should be looking for. I’ll add coins and pics to this thread as i gain information, rather than starting a new thread unless otherwise advised to do so.

First coin I’m interested in is a 1976 penny, no stamped letter where the mint was. I think on the head side, it’s offset. But my main point of interest is the opposite side of the Coin. The D on “UNITED” and the STA on states seem to not have been stamped properly not having the letters elevated, nearly not at all compared to the others. It’s placement doesn’t seem
As though wear would have caused this due to the fact that the space is so tiny. Pics attached.

The 1976 cent from Philadelphia did not have a mint mark so that is what you have, a coin from Philly. The weakness in the lettering is from a worn die or possibly debris getting in the way of a complete strike. But neither are errors.

A valid no mint mark means Philadelphia most of the time. Years '65, '66, and '67 no penny had a mint mark. Other times it means it was either removed during circulation wear or possibly struck through grease. Your reverse letters in question were struck through grease.

Thank you for replying so quickly. So is their worth in this penny, or do coins that are flawed from worn dies, or from debris cause the coin not to have any more value?

A good and free source of information and a lot of it can be found at www.doubleddie.com. The site covers many aspects of how coins are made, what are errors and what are not. It is not just relegated to doubled dies though. And you probably should start a new thread with each coin so your original thread does not get all mangled and confusing.

Is there a website I can access to locate known errors based on the coin and year?

It is just a worn coin and only worth face value. Coins that are true errors do carry some premium above face dependent upon the error and condition and what the market will bear if you decide to sell them. They are only going to be worth what someone is willing to pay. Once you find a true error you can scope out ebay for similar coins and possibly get a ball park figure to work with.

Seems most of what I have, are mostly just offset. Obvious offsets
