    I offered him a dollar, he says my sources are misinformed amateurs. Not sure where he learned this words.

    You'd be surprised. Many blacksmiths advocate wearing less physical protection while working.

    The rationale is that nothing will adequately protect you from hot metal, but wearing safety gear can make you absent minded. In some cases protective gear that will quickly melt or catch on fire is actually less safe than wearing nothing.
