So I have a PCGS in for a crossover at NGC and it went through grading quickly. Like 3 days quick, for an economy order.

I just clicked my status to see if my 1869 Shield nickel has been given the variety, which it looks like it hasn't- That variety thread is HERE.....

But the coin that's been in QC for a week now, went back to scheduled for grading....

    Ever seen that before?

This pic was taken around the 9th of Sept, other was just taken

I'm guessing the finalizer looked at it, did not agree with the graders and has sent it back to the graders to take another look.

I agree. That could be bad news or good news. Keep us posted.

Sorry to give negative vibes but you'll get the variety ,and betcha detail cleaned.
That's what my take is on this....here's why past experience. A sweet shield nickel xf or better...sweet variety and detail cleaned.
No TPG can grade shields correctly I have an 1873 unc given a detailed grade by pcgs. There's nothing on its surfaces ,no rubs, no scratches, etc...yet it got a detailed grade. Maybe they just don't have a grader that can read a shield nickel.

Well it can’t come back less than what PCGS has it at so we’ll see.

It could be that they just keyed it into Grading by accident.

    Wrong pic?

Edit: sorry, I thought this thread was about the 1869 shield nickel, not the half dime...

    Looks a 58 to me, maybe 55.

Thought it was a 58 when I bought it.

Was sending to NGC to get the small stars on the label. Sadly I found out after they only recognize the heavily rusted die as the small stars.

That makes no sense to me. I mean, it is clearly small stars. They look like asterisks. @Insider , what's your take?

    You do know that there are 9 1838 h -10 ddo's!
Which means this is an ddo... this one is an Valentine-10 die number obv.- 5 rev.-4
Which makes it an DDO -005 :D
