Why did the 2018 Red Book list mintages of the 2016 W Burnished ASE, as 57,028 and the PF coin at 34,499. Seems very misleading and confusing. I am always having to tell people, these are not rare coins, they then always point to these mint figures from Red Book..

    What gives?

I don't know. You tell us. Are those mintage figures wrong? Please tell us what they actually are and post that information.

I know nothing about this topic so I opened your topic to read about it. But after reading it I still know nothing about it because you didn't provide any comparison information.

    2013 - 221,981
    2014 - 253,169
    2015 - 223,879
    2016 - 216,501
    2017 - 176,565

Possibly because the book is compiled in advance of the finished totals? Wonder what the 2019 edition might say?

I agree that is the most plausible answer. However I wish they would have made reference to such.

This is why I much prefer a subscription to Numismatic News. They have a once a month price guide plus a weekly update on total Mint output/sales. The Red Book is an excellent source of historical info but the price guide is always a year behind actual auction, dealer, and online sales info. It goes to print months before the end of the fiscal year. I only pick up a Red Book every three to five years. It would probably just hurt sales to reference this.
