@Ikw - Can you get a better/clearer image of the date? I still am leaning towards it being wear but a clearer image would help.
Some doubling can show up as wide letters, but alas, so does wear. The "17 DDO is close to one of those types, I think your coin could be DDO, but it's well passed it's expiration date on being able to discern. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1917ddo1.html
It's actually not that hard to tell on heavily worn 1917 DDO, if you're looking at the right things in the right places.
I think the doubling on a 1917 is at the date. Is that what you think your seeing. I really can't see your pictures.
Those 1917 DD ones in lower grades can be difficult to attribute. I have a graded one in a low grade and the doubling does not stand out. Don't discount it prematurely.
I'm way interested. Can you please send new picture of date and all obverse lettering. I wanna learn too.
