Sovereign Man: No one has ever lost this much money in all of human history

...except on any day when the price of gold, whose total quantity in human hands is estimated at 5.5 billion troy ounces, drops by $22 per ounce. As it tends to do several times a year.

Still, couldn't happen to a nicer Zuck. I hate the man, I hate the company, and I hate the service. It's the first icon deleted from every system I own. And some newspapers have the temerity to REQUIRE a Facebook log-on for their comments. They can go pound sand.

Yep, our local TV station moved from Disqus to Facebook comments, as though that's somehow supposed to increase the quality of discussion. It did reduce the number of comments, to zero for most stories, so I guess I'd say they succeeded.

You have to wonder how any of those sites survive without your or my comments, eh?

I almost find myself wanting to go big into their stock as a hedge, though. If they continue to consume the whole Internet, I get more money; if they fail miserably, I get to live in a better world. Win/win?

Facebook makes most of its money from advertising. As facebook faces more regulation on its advertising and implements its own quality controls to allow users to validate the truthfulness of shares (which could suppress untrue or unpopular items), it seems harder for it to make money in this way. So, why invest in facebook when its ability to make money through its primary way (advertising) looks only to be in decline?

On the other hand, Amazon, Google, and Apple are so ubiquitous in our culture and make money in so many different ways, I can't imagine those stocks going down overall over a long period of time.

Then again, I am super conservative in my investing, I would never buy an individual stock anyway, and I would encourage you to do the same.

Our impressive 4% economic growth right now is fueled primarily by very effective tax cuts. Things looks great in the short term. Unfortunately, they were paid for with a trillion dollar deficit in 2018! This is entirely unsustainable and will have to be fixed later with tax increases and spending cuts. Lower economic growth will then follow.

So don't over analyze any of this short termness as being anything other than super temporary.

Twitter stock went down 20 percent today amid decreased usage.

Perhaps the monster is now chasing Dr. Frankenstein, especially in the case of Facebook.

I only have FB because it was super easy to communicate with family while I was deployed using messenger. I never actually posted on my page or anything like that. I can't stand it and I have no time to waste looking at what other people ate for lunch that day. Same with Twitter, Instagram, and all the others.

To me, FB and the Zuckenstein monster are evil because they collect information on EVERYONE, not just their members. All I have to be in order to get Hoovered up in FB's data collection is be a contact in even one FB member's phone. That's sick.

The evil and the danger is NOT coming from secondhand users of data like that one whose name is partially the town Harvard is in. The evil and the danger IS Facebook.

Considering the insane and ridiculous waste, spending cuts would be tragic indeed.

FB could be screwed because they’re going to have to spend a jillion on privacy measures that may or may not work. Also, FB is trying to de-emphasize itself as a news source. People are dropping out of it. Fewer eyeballs, fewer ads or ads at greatly reduced prices.

Translation: Bigger expenses and revenue growth declines - or declines period.

I’m not a rocket scientist but I can’t figure why stock analysts haven’t all put a SELL on this stock.

You should be used it by now. Tech and social media moves so fast nobody remembers when AOL and Yahoo dominated the scene. Then MySpace took over but is already a footnote in history. Facebook is sure to suffer the same fate. Some bigger and better version is just around the corner.

I would worry more about in home personal assistant devices such as Alexa. Constantly collecting data on everyone. Just say no.

I don't have any of those, either. I have Siri, who doesn't know squat about anything. She can barely remember my light bulbs.

Sometimes I like to ask Siri stupid questions just to see what dumb answer she comes up with. Sometimes I may call her names too. She doesn't like that.

I have a brain. Use it or lose it. Think about how many phone numbers or addresses you could name off of the top of your head, but now can't because you can just look them up in your contacts.

I still remember friend's phone numbers from when I was in elementary school. I only know 2 numbers in my phone now though. Mine and my wife's. I don't even know my parents' numbers.

When I buy duck food at Tractor Supply, they ask for a phone number for their deals. It is my daughter's, and I have to pull the phone out and look. Pitiful!
