We have 5 turtles in the gardens this year. They come buy the back door each morning to have breakfast with our kitty. One or two of them will actually peck on the glass if they don't find food.

Interesting! After 60 years of collecting coins, and learning by experimentation, I found this site after viewing another which I knew couldn't be tolerated. I thought by just viewing I might see the answer to a cleaning question which I've never found disclosed. I've tried everything suggested, and many of my physics understandings. My procedures generally worked for everything but properly removing a Copper spot, so TPG wouldn't recognize the alteration.

I've been doing a TPG grading study for several years now, removing expensive coins from one Top Tier TPG for submission to the other, using different experienced dealers throughout the country for submission. A dealer I trust didn't arrive as promised to a ~200 mile RT coin show, where I was to give him six better date minimum MS63 prior grade Liberty Double Eagles.

I'd driven the distance, and decided I'd ask all of the dealers if anyone could/would submit my coins as a "lot". The majority said no, but several pointed to one busy individual. One beautiful 1979S coin had a large spot just under the eye, for which I expected a reduced grade. The dealer negotiated his terms, to which I totally agreed, and he prepared the paper-work, taking the coins. As I walked away, he said "I can remove that Copper spot", to which I said no, and left. On the long drive home I evaluated my decision, thinking the worst event would be a "cleaned" encapsulation, which that TPG had done anyway in the past. But the coin might not be seen "cleaned". I e-mailed the dealer to remove the spot, as I'm a pragmatist, willing to learn regardless of past education.

All of the coins came back with a MS grade. Listening on this site has taught me to "trust but verify", even though suggestions may seem contrary to experience. When asked what he did/used, he only disclosed that the technique requires a sequence with timeliness and patience that most wouldn't practice.

I've learned that most want a "Quick Fix/Find" in life, often experiencing/giving irritation when receiving something other than that desired.

WOW..calm down friend you should count to 10 and then think what you are writing before you send it to a post, you could have hurt Bud's feelings... Some questions asked of the members of CT may prompt answers that you do not agree with, but the answers come from years of experience. But welcome to CoinTalk

I never served at Parris Island, but I was held up for an hour there to wait for amphibious exercises to finish before being allowed to pass along the ICW in a 53’ Matthews.

The NGC coin forum has become almost ground to a halt over the astronomical number of “stupid newb” questions like we have here. They even created a special section for newb questions, and the newbs just can’t stop invading the others. The whole “errors and varieties which are not” meme is going to do one of two things: 1) be THE future of online discussion boards about coins, or 2) completely ruin the hobby.

I DON’T ask questions that I can get answered by buying a book.

Ah yes, most want a "quick fix". Isn't that what a "dip" is .. some magical liquid formula that will evenly and brilliantly make a coin look better than new without any prep, post work, etc ?

I guess I got lucky as I know there's not a quick fix and wasn't looking to make it into a million dollar coin.

This forum is chock full of information. You just have to read, search, experiment sometimes and you'll learn a lot.

Sadly, many don't want to put time in it and are just trying to find an "easy job / past time" where they can pay their monthly rent. And seeing all the "get rich with your pocket change" stuff out there gravitate towards finding 1982 pennies in parking lots.

Ah yes, but you have to admit that people who don't know what you know many times won't learn anything by reading a book. :sorry: They're just looking for confirmation of misguided information. :(

Nowadays, they might not even know what a book is. :woot:

You mean like knowing a library is good for something other than providing Internet access to old people? “Looking for confirmation of misguided information”. Brilliantly put. Those are the ones that receive my best snark. They want to use CT as a drunkard uses a light post- for support rather than illumination.

Books, newspapers, are on their way out.
    It's a shameful disgrace, but it's happening.

I prefer to push back rather than acquiesce. It's all a con, the "electronic" world. I had a digital subscription to CoinWorld for 3 years through Apple iBooks. This year, the digital subscription jumped from $19.95 a year to $69.95 a year in one fell swoop. I quit. Going back to dead trees. Bloomberg Business News is now behind a $35 per MONTH paywall.

Just across from my office is our rack of publications for government types. Every blessed one is glossy printed. No titles are offered electronically. The Internet only takes over if we allow it. I will fight back.

They had to give a raise to the dude that would scan each page of the paper magazine and send to the subscriber, and repeat scan/send for each subscriber ... :)
