Are you going to buy gold this week?

I dunno, but LCS’s are rare. And the gold and silver “culture” is almost totally restricted to serious numismatists. There are very few “gold bugs”. This isn’t the Old West here.

People here don't worry about the dollar collapsing; they're too busy worrying that their electric utility's new "smart meter" is stealing their soul, or something. I've actually gotten 5 calls about this in just the last two weeks.

Just an interesting aside: APMEX is offering the raw 2014 Kennedy gold half in Mint packaging for $1,070. Isn’t that a considerable amount below the issue price that overeager buyers took to insane prices?

Gold AGE 1oz. buyback prices: Provident $1,258. APMEX $1,245, FYI.

Trust me, I know. I did "security" for the line at Chicago. It was $1210 OIP.

APMEX is selling the NGC slabbed version, graded 70, for $1270. Go look at eBay for scores of sellers totally underwater on the coin.

On the Kennedy's .. yes, but they HAVE sold for under $1,000 in the past in OGP with spot gold about where it is now. I'm waiting to it to just break under $1,000 for the coin before I snatch one up. Maybe.

Might not have to wait too much longer before ppl try to limit their losses and sell closer to spot reducing their premiums. On eBay APmex is selling for 1076 in OGP and others are still asking $2k for OGP. So much for appreciatable gold "investments".

I’d like a gold Kennedy also. Not much into buying moderns. Would one be better off buying the slabbed version or risk buying a raw one that should have been returned to the Mint?

Obviously, I’m looking at this coin as a collectible and not a “gold investment.”

Well, I'm not in to any premium from it being slabbed and I prefer OGP. You're closer to spot at 69, 70 obviously has more of a premium but a higher quality (notice I don't use collectible).

As a "collectible" I would think the 70. But I also consider it more of a collectible but I'm not willing to get a 70. I'd get a 69 at the same price as an OGP though (with the OGP would be even better which I've seen a few).

The problem I see, when the coin is introduced is when all the "collectible" frenzy occurs. A limited item, Demand outstripping Supply for a short while. As time goes on the "collectible" tarnishes ... and it floats closer and closer to spot. I see this also on the 2009 Gold High Relief which I'm watching as it price slower lowers no matter the price of gold. It's losing it's polish as a "collectible".

So it all depends upon how you "collect"; your price point for the "collectible" and how you value it.

It would add to my Kennedy Half "Collection". I've gotten the 2016 SLQ and WLH to go with those "collections" too which include real SLQs and WLHs but I waited for those prices go to a level that was more palatable.

I prefer OGP for modern stuff. And on this issue IN PARTICULAR, I find the PCGS slab ridiculously ugly. If I had to go slabbed, it’s NGC in a heartbeat. Besides, PCGS slabbed more “show coin” labels than coins that were sold at the show. Completely dishonest.

I've been keeping my eyes open for a gold Kennedy close to spot, ideally one that's impaired in some way. I'd like to do the pocket-piece thing. I'm not sure anybody's looking for lowball specimens of that coin at present.

They occasionally go close to that price on eBay, but only as BINs that are snatched up long before I see them.

    hahaha

I'm always watching for the 3/4 oz Kennedys. I like them.
Only have a couple but I'm always watching for close to spot as possible.
Every so often you can pick one off for just under $1k.

Can I pick one off with a .22 at 50 yards? I do believe I can! I hate that coin with a passion inappropriate for an inanimate object.

Even if it's escaped the opening hype unscathed, remained in its OGP, and is ripe to be worn down to VG or so? Even though it's got the same dimensions as the original coin that it apes?
