I always think PMs are a long, super long term investment.
I started buying when the Pre33s were about $440 each. I stopped when it hit $500. then all of a sudden they were at $800. I was hoping it would go back down .... oh well. Then the globalization economy really hit and pulled everything up (cement, copper, steel, etc).

That's what I figure. Plus I'm sure the automotive/manufacturing sector is on contracts.

That's one thing I hate about Platinum. You pay a hefty Premium to buy it, and take a hefty loss to sell it (to a dealer). And few ppl collect it.

Good for you. Excellent. Even that bulliest of metals bulls, Patrick Heller, agrees.

Do you still have your gold at $440? That must feel really good!

I still have SOME gold, not much, bought at $151. A Swiss 1-ounce bar bought in Switzerland while buying gold bullion here was still a legal no-no.

Yeah, that and a few Eagles and an Austrian Ducat are just about all I didn't sell in August 2011.

but that doesn't mean I stack it. My silver ASEs I think are not going to grow anymore; matter of fact I wouldn't mind selling out of them.

There are specific coins that I'm after which are silver/gold, but I'm not buying them because they are silver/gold.

PMs, for me are the low rung of the investment ladder because I think you can get a better return on many other low yield investments. LOL

It's just those weird spikes you get once in a blue moon which is why I'm holding. Hey those Congratulation Sets paid off nicely. :)

I had a nice stack of St Gaudens. Love that design.

Unfortunately a financial pummeling of a marriage dispelled of all of my investments. ALL. I started from scratch 9 years ago.

But along the way you learn things. For instance I had $1200 of J&J stock back in 1978. I bought a Selmer Paris saxophone in 1982 with that money. Ahhh ... if I still have that stock it would be $82,000. Oh well; although I still have and play that saxophone and it's worth TWICE as much now.

I won't even mention the Apple $10k @$5/share I had which was pummeled too.

When I was in college I was getting phone calls from "investment" people trying to sell me South African Krugerrands; which at the time were banned.

I'm done with buying bullion. I have a bunch that I plan to give to the kids someday in the distant future. In fact, the last coin show I went to, I brought some .999 silver and sold it to buy that Trade Dollar and some Seated Halves. Bullion is what first turned me on to coins. I'll gladly trade more silver for 19th century US coins.

A nice but not necessarily outstanding Trade Dollar is my current #1 7070 album target. I'd actually prefer a slightly worn one with a chopmark or two. I'm a sucker for a "story" in coins, especially the ones I don't collect by date. At the other end of the size scale, I'm looking for a suweeeet 3 cent silver.

@Clawcoins, I “liked” your recent post, but not because I liked what happened to you. I identified with some of your investment history. Hope the past nine years has seen a fair amount of recovery for you.

Oh no, no, no, no. You misunderstand me. I don't grab quantity. I presently own only two 3-cent silvers. But I want a much nicer one than either of mine for my 7070. My Lincoln Memorial cent in my 7070 is a PCGS MS67 that I cracked out of its holder. My 7070 has a fair number of empty holes, but no coins I want to replace with better ones, or in some cases, even COULD.

Oh I've recovered nicely whilst having my kids in the household. FB & SQ have been nice to me stock appreciation-wise and everything before hand daytrading.

I also was starting a financial company back then that I scuttled quickly when things went haywire. Can't reach out to clients if you yourself can't keep your finances in order; plus would hate to see any "embezzlement" viewed scenarios.

I'm 8 years out of backruptcy and will hopefully never see it again.
Whilst she is in bankruptcy again. Oh sorry, she's not. She got kicked out/dismissal with her new hubbie. ouch.

I started working on my freebie community outreach meetings. To help ppl financially, prevent or recover from bankruptcy, and learn to save and build wealth.

Yes, that's right. You drive for "perfect" examples excluding Error stuff.

I would like to do that too. but I'm constrained by time and finances. So i first rebuilt my US coinage collection that I like. And sooner or later I'll rebuild quality if I deem it necessary.

I have thousands, literally, that I wish I hadn't bought. What would be the least painful way of dumping them?

That's the upside of being an old divorced man with a great job and a 4-minute commute with a son who has a girlfriend who's a dead ringer for Katy Perry before she cut or colored her hair. (What father could compete with THAT?!?!)
