I do not think it has gone the right way to far in a couple years.

 

I don't think silver is not a good investment for me as the price never gets high and probably never get 50.00 range as when the hunts tried to corner the market so I just collect for the coins I want and as a collector the only one who will benefit will be the kids as they don't have any money in them

 

One has to really think ... how is Silver (or gold) and investment?

With stocks, one can check their marketshare, their revenue, manufacturing costs, etc and their PROFIT. And base the share price on their performance, or lack there of.

How exactly are PMs priced ?
It is related, stereotypically conversely to the Dollar Index ... which is based on what ?? How does that affect it globally ?

and it has other loose correlations and reverse correlations.

But PMs do not generate revenue. They do not have anything to base their price on. Simply a mathematical equation, sometimes supply, and demand.

of course, depending upon your definition of things that can vary greatly.

 

....Collecting is one thing and that requires very little money...Your wife can have so much fun at a coin show with the scrap boxes priced at about a quarter each.... But investing on the other hand i have found that it is no longer viable unless the item has such a small minting like a 1911s and 1912s wheat penny...I was a stamp and coin dealer in Australia and found that by going to shows and having my items priced at nothing over $5. l went home with an empty car many times whilst other dealers sold very little...Please remember that collectors are like parasites and only fish out the cheapest price...That is over 35 years of experience in the trade speaking. The collectors in general are long gone and are aged 60 year range and beyond. I admit i am a collector as well but not of coins. I collect banknotes and hard rock cafe pins....I will not touch coins unless i can buy something today and sell it tomorrow for a minimum of 15% profit. That is 15 in 24 hours...Just imaging your money earning 15% x 365 and that is a year...People over 60 are interested in their twighlight years with very little income if any....Youngsters ( 17 - 25 ) only want their mobile phones and the like and the rest ( 25 - 40 ) are getting married and trying to raise families.... Cost of coins etc has gone way out of proportion and as soon as anything is bought from the mint , it will decrease 30% before you take it out the store.... Unless you know of items that only got issued for mint sets like the Australian 1975 nickel....That is always a keeper as they will never be able to be found in circulation. On the other hand, the 1986 mint set had a huge amount not released for circulation and they can be found anywhere as mint sets have been dissected...I am guilty of that myself. The 1992 Barcelona Australian $1 coin is a big player and will stay up there for a long time as it was never issued for circulation.
Here is a list of some of the items i invested in and when i sold them, i purchased a car ( chevrolet cruize ) when i retired.
1. Australian 1992 Barcelona $1 Coin
2. Australian 1925 penny Coin any grade
3. Australian 1946 penny Coin any grade
4. All 1915 Aussie coins except the penny no matter the denomination
5. 1933 Australian Shilling Coin any grade
6. 1985 Australian Nickel ( only issued in Mint sets )
7. Australian 1923 Halfpenny Coin
8. 1990 2c and 50c Coin ( only issued in Mint sets )
9 1972 Australian nickel in high grade only ( EF and above )
10 USA 1911s Wheat penny ( at least VF grading)
11 USA 1912s Wheat penny ( at least VF grading)

Only the Australian coins were unc as they were directly from unopened mint/ unc sets....None of the others were UNC as i dont believe in UNC.... In my eyes nothing can be unc as the coins had to be handled one time or another and have got microscopic traces of oils from peoples skin....I BELIEVE UNC = JUNK as the average collector cannot afford them...

Nowadays i dont think the young generation are interested in the hobby so that makes the dealers kind of refrain from buying. Please remember that a coin is only worth what you can sell it for and if there is no interest, then it is worth nothing. have a nice day

I hope so, LOL I believe it has 2 converters so they will go to scrap yard separate. I know they are expensive little buggers it cost the dealer 1400.00 to replace the 2 on the wifes 05.

 

No, I believe "impregnated" is just a euphemism for what happens to you when you need to buy a replacement.

after the online places slowly float their premium prices down closer to spot+ respectable premium.

 

Claw...can you recommend places to buy pre-33 gold? What control do you have over what you get (as far as year and mint)?

caveat: I've bought from the above with no issues. Mostly electronic check, but on ebay you can get away with CreditCard if needed. I haven't had any issues so far.

The more picky you get, the more $$ you spend.
For instance, if you want any year St Gauden you can pay $1313 at BullionExchg
If you want a specific year then, for instance, APMEX will have various grade and various years from $1380 to $2500.

Then you can always get a particular year/grade slabbed too.

You'll have to search around those websites for it. If it's a key date then you'll have to specifically find it.

You could always buy a slabbed 1851-O MS67+, crack it out, and polish it yourself.
