I considered RickieB a very close friend too. I learned more from him than probably anybody else here. He is the reason that my interest in paper currency developed into an actual hobby.

He used to tell me about the wonders of Rainbow notes and encouraged me to one day put together a nice collection of these beautiful pieces. Something that's still a high priority for me.

I remember when I was starting to get interested in National Currency (I loved the idea that I could get notes issued by my home state...even my home town)...I went to Rickie to learn about them. As always he was a fountain of knowledge. Then, one day...a package showed up at my house. Totally unannounced (he wanted it to be a surprise). I still use this wonderful gift regularly and I kept the little note that came with it.

I sincerely hope that my friend truly found peace as I know he had a long battle with health issues.

Very generous guy and always willing to share what he knew. He is definitely missed here on the forum.

I was not around when this guy was here but I have read many threads with his comments. The one that struck me most was when he gave a gold coin to the winner of a contest he did not even start. I believe the winner was Twiggs.
Wow is all I can say and wish I had the good fortune of knowing him.
There was also one about a fund raising effort for a young boy that had a fire in in home, Phoenix I think it was. Very giving man for sure.

I’m currently re-organizing my collection and moving most of it into a safe, as is long overdue, when I came across this:

RickieB and I had some unpleasant run-ins at first, but we eventually became friends. I can recall after having bought my first DSLR and a new laptop sometime around 2009-2010, he spent a great length of time with me on the phone, helping me alter display settings to try to get what I saw in hand, the pictures I took, what my monitor showed me, and what his monitor showed him all in sync.

I miss his presence here and seeing his threads pop up on the sidebar. I could never quite get into collecting paper money myself, but it was always nice to be able to learn from someone who was so passionate about it.

RickieB was my favorite participant on this forum. We eventually were on a friends basis where we would pass a few messages back and forth on topics not pertaining to coins.

In 2005 or maybe 2006 my wife and I took a one-week vacation to Orlando, Florida. We had a great time and of course had to go home at the end of the week. After a week or two back home I sent RickieB a message telling him that I had been on vacation for a week. He informed me that he and his family had also been on vacation the same week.

I said where? He said Florida. I said “Me too! We were in Orlando.” He responded that his family had been in Orlando also. I thought, oh, man, we could have driven across town and met face to face! Lost opportunity.

“Where did you stay?”, I asked. “We stayed at the Ventana Resort.” I did too! Geez, we could have just walked across the parking lot and met.

But he taught me a lot about numismatics. He had a particular interest in notes.

    A class act.

    RIP Rickie.
