https://www.rt.com/business/423364-us-gold-dollar-bullion/ " Congressman from West Virginia Alex Mooney has proposed a bill “to define the dollar as a fixed weight of gold.” This is clearly sensible, in that it puts the dollar on a solid footing instead of its current fiat standard. It is clearly nonsense as the US doesn't have enough gold to do this. However, it is interesting, even if it will not get anywhere.
Of course not.... if one would even begin to think of all the dollars printed ,as well coins minted there's no way that the United States or any other goverment could back their currency by a gold or silver standard.
My news feed occasionally offers up stories about the coming dollar apocalypse, gold's impending surge, and so on. They're invariably from RT.
I have a real bad feeling about this thread, so warning. I edited each of the above threads. Keep it non-political. The bullion section has been on shaky hooks many time due to political comments.
I believe we got off the gold standard when we didn’t have enough gold to back our gold certificates. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Trump tokens as such belong in the proper forum, the same for any of similar type. If they have a political affiliation or slogan on them, they will be removed and possible infraction given.
I believe foreign countries started cashing in on our debts demanding to be paid in gold and making large withdrawals. The move was to protect reserves in the US (we didn’t have enough gold to cover all our spending and debts).
That is probably an exaggeration, but it is understandable that you feel that way: the MSM in the US is not allowed to touch such subjects. But, in fact, I did not notice it was an RT article: I got it from the Coininfo feed.
That would destroy the US gov't and economy if at any time the price of gold was not balanced with the Dollar at all times. Imagine all the foreign gov'ts cashing in their US Dollars for Gold. That would wipe us out so quickly ... just like it was starting to do before they stopped the Gold redemptions from foreign gov'ts in the 70s.
Interesting that it is a moderator who introduced the idea of a conspiracy. I was trying to stay away from anything controversial and just presenting the facts. But as you brought it up yourself I will ask if you are aware of the phrase "conspiracy theory"? It was invented by the CIA as a way to marginalize ideas that they do not want people to accept as they really are. And if you think I am making that up it is easy to do a search which shows I am not.
Actually I did pretty much the opposite, in my response to what you wrote about "MSM". But it was not my intention to start a political debate here - I just had to read a lot yesterday, after the attack in Münster, about what our "main stream media" in Germany supposedly dare not publish. Hence my reaction in this case which I apologize for. Christian
No, it is an official US Motto for currency by law since 1956, and as such its appearance there is acceptable. So photos of coins and bills containing it are allowed.
How can you discuss bullion prices without mentioning politics? Oh, and by the way, were it not for politics we'd have never had Morgan or Peace dollars. I'd love to say why but that would be about politics.
