Love Late Roman coins from the Rome mint! Honorius AR Siliqua Struck circa 407-08 CE 1.26 grams Rome mint Constantius II AE-3 355-60 CE Love the traces of silvering on this one. Valentinian I AR Siliqua 364-67 CE Rome mint One of my personal favorites, probably due to the fact that Emperor Valentinian vacillated between Rome and Mediolanum in the early years of his reign.
Constantius II - AE2 Obv:– D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed, bust right, A behind bust. Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Helmeted soldier to left, shield on left arm, spearing falling horseman; shield on ground at right. Horseman is seated on the ground reaching towards emperor. Minted in Thessalonica (Δ | * //.TSΓ.) Reference:- RIC VIII Thessalonica 137 (R) ok for you where error, thank you very much.
It seems to me that when the horseman is off the horse and kneeling on the ground as here, then he is truly "fallen." But while he is still on the horse he is, as John Kent tended to say, "falling." This is a true fallen horseman, and that makes it special. Right?
I love the FHs and usually can't help myself when one pops up for sale. These posts are like a good therapy session.
22-21 mm. 4.20 grams. This one seems to be a "fallen" horseman as opposed to a "falling" horseman. Do I detect a Trier mintmark? There is an "A" behind the bust in the later stages at western mints.
thank you Constantius II - AE2 Obv:– D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed, bust right, A behind bust. Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, soldier spearing fallen horseman, Γ to left. Mintmark CONSI star and CONSH star Minted in Thessalonica ( Γ //CONSI* and CONSH*) Reference:- RIC VIII Constantinople 81 What is unusual is that the riders seems to wear a Crown instead of a cap or a helmet
