    Is this a proof coin?

I took pictures using two different colored backgrounds. This coin was difficult to photo.

    Any input would be appreciated.

I think it is a nice looking IHC but I would have a very hard time saying that it is a proof. I'm not seeing it.

What do you look for to determine if it is a proof?
    Thanks very much.

I submitted an 1859 1C Indian to PCGS and it came back as a proof.

This coin looks similar and I cant find any info how to determine the difference.

To me, the details seem a bit more "mushy" than the proof coins I am seeing.

Check coinfacts, and look at date placement on the proofs. There were only 460 1863 proof Indian cents, so likely one die was used for the mintage.

All I am seeing is a slightly misaligned business strike.

Not a proof. Proofs would have sharp, squared-off edges.

True, squared off edges. This one has chamferred edges for circulation.

Thank you for the comment. I am learning about coins but would you tell me what verdicare consist of?

    Thank you very much.

Here is the MSDS for it, but the specific ingredients are not listed. Used as specified, it does not harm the copper based coins, and only reacts with the chemical damage to lessen it. It doesn't claim to remove all corrosion, but it does what it can safely. It has a near neutral pH, so there is no color change of the coin metal as caused be acidic compounds. I have used it from the beginning and have varying degrees of success, but all such coins sent to PCGS and NGC were slabbed clean of any mention. I personally recommend it, and the inventor BadThad is a long time member here. IMO Jim
