https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...1811-24354.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 I have been looking at a lot of coins and I wanted opinions on this one as far as the grade it received. Let me know your thoughts.
I agree with the grade. Looks like a nice coin to me. The reverse has a bit too much chatter, maybe. But 65 is fair IMHO.
I'd say 63. And before somebody's jaw breaks their keyboard - please remember this first. The early S mint Morgans are and always have been held to a tougher standard when it comes to grading them. Or at least they are supposed to be. So 65 for that coin, well it's badly over-graded.
The marks on her cheek could be slightly superficial (very light contact) I agree with the 65 grade. edit I am sure that there are better examples of the grade and CAC.
Yea, the hits and luster breaks might not be as noticeable in hand. I wouldnt pay any premium for this coin though. The sticker doesnt enhance the coin in any way, shape, fashion, or form.
I've never been a fan of Heritage's imaging techniques. Can you say leaves a lot to be desired. I know I'd never try to sell an eye appealing coin through them. But interpreting their images of this coin, I feel it's a typical CAC 65 for the date. As other's have said, I would not pay a premium for the CAC.
Thanks all for the input. I had questions about the luster too. That and what do you think of the "dents" under the second U in Pluribus and above the first 8 in the date?
I’m not a fan of their picture style either. They seem to just phone it in a lot of times when it’s not a six figure coin.
I think it's a i want you for a return customer 65. Coin has WAY to many hits for a 65. Don't think tpg even looked at reverse. 63 at best
I'm ok with that being in a 65 holder, especially if you compare it to many currently graded 64 Morgans. I wouldn't call it a high end 65; it's not an A/A+ but more like a B/B+, which still fits in with the Green CAC sticker.
