Many dealers when they see ASE, AGE or APEs will give "spot" price only. SPOT price meaning the price of an ounce of the stuff at that time. Many (some, more or less) normally don't offer Numistmatic (collector) value at all even if it's a proof, or slabbed. Others will vary of course.

If you want to learn more about it Buy a "Red Book" but those numbers can be inflated in there but it's a good start. Keep in mind those prices are intended for the "end buyer" of something. If you go through an intermediary you'll get less from it as mentioned ==> https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Book-United-States-Coins/dp/0794845061/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519920437&sr=8-1&keywords=coin red book

Red book is a horrible pricing tool, I don’t get why so many recommend it for that

You will find that most ASE,S are of a high quality, right out of the box so
Getting them graded really isnt a smart financial decision.

It's a marketing gimmick for regular ASEs and special ones like the Reverse Proofs, etc.

Lot more money in selling them than in regular ASEs. Ditto gold Eagles, too.

I suppose then you should sell proofs at places other than dealers. A single ASE can be found for around $19 bucks .... a Proof in box with COA $50 more or less.

Or tell the dealers you're happy to buy all their proofs especially the graded ones at spot +3 since they're supposedly just bullion.

Dealers will sell the Proofs for more, just I've found they like to offer spot for Proofs. Maybe not all of them, but a few I've run across do.

'ya know ... they like to make a profit. Buy low, sell high.
