What are you all paying for 90% junk?

If I walk into a coin shop and see a coin I like I normally buy it if it's within my budget. If the coin is under priced, I just keep my mouth shut and pay the price asked. A dealer should know better and know the value of a coin they are selling. Now if I'm buying it from a collector, say at a coin club meeting, and it's under priced. I will tell the Seller and discuss a fairer price.

Friday, March 16, LCS had Eagles for 19.85, Rounds for 18.35 and 90% was12.15.

 

Sounds "middle of the bell curve" to me.

The new chief economics advisor is a "bull" on the U.S. dollar, and a "bear" on precious metals, and people in jobs like that tend to be able to MAKE things happen.

 

Today, March 29, LCS selling Eagles for 19.70, Rounds 18.20 and 90% for 12.00.

I cannot imagine a reason why I might EVER want generic pre-1965 silver coinage, aka "junk silver". The entire reason most people state for doing it is something I consider a near-zero probability. The expected value for any activity is its future value times its probability, and a near zero probability implies a near-zero expected value. When I lived in a house at the top of a hill, I also refused to buy flood insurance, and I don't have a meteorite impact rider.

I do not buy junk Silver for Zombie Apocalypse reasons. I buy it for the low premiums. Doesn’t mean I am adverse to selling it to preppers though. I have a friend that sells PM’s at gun shows. That crowd eats up junk!

I would say there is a lot more reasons for it then disaster prepping (ironically which it would be pretty useless in). I buy it because it’s fairly easy to flip for a small profit, and error searching.

 

I love the stuff. Why wouldn't I want some mason jars filled with old silver US coins? Mind you, I wouldn't buy a sack of it from Apmex, but I've acquired quite a bit. I'm hoping that as my kids get older, they might want to pour through it and fill folders or start a collection of their own. A lot of what I have came from accumulation of my Wife's Grandfather, so it certainly hasn't been searched in a long long time. Maybe there are some pickers in there. It has value to me beyond the weight of silver it contains, it's part of my collection.

 

My LCS charged me 12X today, seemed fair.

 

That's precisely melt at the moment. They must have gotten a great deal buying it.

 

Coin meeting yesterday I pick 2 rossies out of the club resale folder for $1ea.
10x spot.

 

Those rossies must be pretty light if you're paying about $165 per ounce. (I assume you mean 10x face and not 10x spot?)
