Coins with ultra high grades and high numismatic value don’t usually generate big toning premiums as the eye appeal is expected at that grade & price.

    $3700

This one went for way under the guide price. $1974.38
Just another example of why you can never price a coin based on any one price guide.

Are you sure about that being the most recent selling price?

I looked at auction records for similar coins. Found 2 ngc 68 stars. Both cac One at $1880 one at $2100. Which looked like the same coin with a different cert number. A 68 no star at around $800 too. Guide way too high for this. As it’s not a series I know well

I have several higher end Morgan's, Walking Liberties that have very nice toning but this common date 1964 Washington Quarter is my favorite. Watched it tone over a 40 year period in a type set. Seems to change colors more than any I've owned.( blue, ruby, gold etc.) 20171231_115302.jpg

Here are the rules to this thread,
    Post #1
I was recently looking at a thread from @@Lehigh96 about toning premiums from the 2010-2011 time period.
https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-toning-premium-thread.135678/ As toning continues to be both popular and controversial, I thought it would be interesting to see what posters have to say about the market for the past few years.

    The rules are simple:
    1. A toned coin with an approximate "guide price" will be posted.
    2. Everyone has 24 hours to guess the premium/price paid (as well as their. thoughts of what the coin is worth).
    3. Provide a reason for your guess (if it is just a wild guess, please say so).
    4. The closest guess to the price that the coin sold for wins and gets to post the next coin.
*Note: please don't post another coin until the prior item has a declared winner.
    5. If the winner does not want to post a coin or can't do so within 24 hours of being declared the winner, anyone is open to post their coin.

*Note#2: If the thread seems to lose interest, there may be room to alter the rules above.
