Would be very interested to hear what two of our members ldhair cpm9ball Have to say on how this happened if they have any. USMC60
When the gal got off the ship, her arm rubbed against the railing that had grease on it. I don't have a solid opinion but will add a few thoughts. Maybe die damage or maybe post mint damage. Take a look at the far right side of the flag the little boy is holding. There are marks going thru the stripes that look much the same. Interesting coin and nice images.
If you are referring to the scratches, my guess would be the end crimper on a coin rolling machine. The same damage is visible across the Flag, the boy's jacket sleeve, the fence post and the soffit on the building.
Thank you for your thoughts and opinion. I'm going to have to examine the flag a little more closely.
Basically I was referring to the girls right elbow. That is an awful deep and wide impression. As far as the scratches goes everywhere else I'll have to do a closer examination and get back with you on that. But thank you for your your opinion. USMC60
I just love this zeke filter I find it shows you things in the image you normally cannot's see, still learning how to interpret the image, just like an x-ray. But for coins. The area that is marked out, is an area that is depressed along her elbow and looks like a staircase to the right going up into the field. I like this filter more more each day
The red arrows to the left, I believe that it is a die scratch, It could be a crack in the die, there is a die crack coming from it, into the suit case she is holding. The area to the right is pmd, from a coin roller or another coin.
Here's a photo I think you'll enjoy. That is not a chip it is a piece of metal that is pushed up by the die shift. This one has not form the crack that I have seen on several others like the one on the original photo.
